Avaion updates FatFinger
Minneapolis-based Avaion, a mobile computing software company, announced the latest release of its award-winning data entry software, FatFinger 2.5. The new version offers new Spanish, French, Italian, and Swedish keyboard layouts, as well as improved compatibility with third-party programs. Initially launched in September, 2002, FatFinger is one of the best-selling data-entry utilities available for Palm OS handhelds. FatFinger offers an alternative to Graffiti or mini-keyboards, providing back-lit, finger-sized onscreen keyboards that can be used with any Palm OS application.
Winsted site boasts new quote system
Winsted Technical Furniture said its Web site now includes an innovative quote request system in addition to a complete product listing and online catalog,
Now as customers browse the online catalog, they can enter quantities of items they'd like. When complete, the items are instantaneously gathered and a form is automatically sent to the nearest Winsted representative in that customer's area. The customer then receives a complete price quote within hours. Among Winsted's newest products is the LCD3 Rack Mount Series, a line of sophisticated welded black modular rack mount cabinets and accessories for LCD monitors.
McGowan new Alpha communications consultant
Minneapolis-based Alpha Video and Audio, Inc. has announced the addition of Tom McGowan as electronic communications consultant for its Digital Display Group. McGowan's primary focus at Alpha will be to provide visual electronic communications solutions to the casino and gaming industry.
Inver Hills College receives grant
Inver Hills Community College recently noted the signing of the Minnesota Job Skills Partnership Grant, "Advanced Networking and Internetworking Technologies." The grant is a result of a public/private partnership among the college, the Minnesota Jobs Skills Partnership Program, Cisco Systems Inc., and major Minnesota companies including US Bank, Northwest Airlines, Wells Fargo, Fortis, Ecolab, 3M, Thomson/WestLaw, and Cargill. IHCC is working with Cisco Systems to deliver computer network security training to some of the major companies in Minnesota.
Digital Angel CEO steps down
Digital Angel Corp. CEO Randolph Geissler has stepped down to become CEO of the company's animal applications and information/medical divisions. Geissler became CEO of Digital Angel after it merged with Destron Fearing Corp. in 2000. The South St. Paul-based company said Kevin McLaughlin will serve as interim CEO until a permanent replacement has been found. McLaughlin is the president and chief operating officer of Digital Angel's majority owner, Applied Digital Solutions Inc. in Palm Beach, Fla.
Zomax plant to build PS2 CDs
Plymouth-based Zomax Inc. reported that a division of Sony's U.S. operations has approved Zomax' Fremont, Calif., facility as an authorized assembly site for PlayStation 2 computer entertainment centers. Sony Computer Entertainment America Inc.'s approval included authorization for the plant to assemble and distribute CDs and DVDs for PlayStation 2 games.
Entegris launches Japanese-language Web site
Chaska-based Entegris Inc. switched to a direct sales model in Japan, ending its relationship with Marubeni, which had distributed its products in the country. In order to support that sales effort, Entegris has launched a Japanese-language Web site for its DeviceCare product line. Entegris makes products to protect semiconductors during shipment and advanced components for fuel cells.
