Amato new Viewpoint CEO
New York-based Viewpoint Corp., a provider of interactive media technology and services, appointed Jay S. Amato chief executive officer. Bob Rice, current president and CEO, will become executive chairman. Best known for his successful tenure as president and CEO at Vanstar and leadership of the Technology Access Action Coalition/ACT, Amato has been in the technology sector for more than 20 years.
Quigo launches AdSonar system
New York-based Quigo Technologies Inc. announced the launch of its AdSonar contextual advertising product. AdSonar enables online publishers and licensees to serve contextually targeted advertising that achieves greater relevancy, reach and revenue for publishers, licensees, and advertisers alike. Along with contextual solutions built in-house, Overture has licensed Quigo's AdSonar.
Quigo is a developer of proprietary search products for online contextual advertising, search engine marketing, and business intelligence, AdSonar integrates automated semantic technology with human intelligence. AdSonar uses proprietary semantic algorithms to automatically identify, match and deliver the most relevant ads to each particular content page.
500,000-plus join Meetup.com
New York-based Meetup.com said more than 500,000 people have signed up to "Meetup"--to gather once a month, face-to-face, in-person, with a group of neighbors with a common interest. Meetup.com, an online tool to organize offline groups, was launched last year by a group of New York City residents to help foster local community. Meetups are free, monthly events that take place at cafes, restaurants, bowling alleys, bars, and other local establishments everywhere. People of all ages and interests have flocked to Meetup.com to connect in the real world on over 1,600 topics in 586 cities.
Lang new Catalyst CEO
The board of New York-based Catalyst appointed Ilene H. Lang as president. Catalyst is a non-profit focusing on women's private sector leadership. Lang is the founding CEO of AltaVista Internet Software, Inc. and a First Light Capital venture partner. Prior to AltaVista, Lang served as a senior executive at Lotus Development Corp.
SMI releases full-motion training for SQL Server 2000
New York-based SMI Corp. released a full-motion video and audio CD-ROM training course for Microsoft SQL Server 2000 Administration. With the "Practical Microsoft SQL Server 2000 Administration on 21 CD-ROMs" training course from SMI Corp., database administrators will learn techniques for installing, configuring, administering and programming Microsoft SQL Server 2000. At the conclusion of this course the student will be prepared for successful database administration and be ready to pass exams #70-028 and #70-228, which provide core credits toward MCDBA certification and elective credits toward MCSE certification upon successful completion.
Greenwich Technology achieves wireless LAN specialization
New York-based Greenwich Technology Partners, a provider of network infrastructure consulting and engineering services, achieved wireless LAN specialization certification from Cisco Systems Inc. This specialization recognizes GTP as having the technical training and expertise required to design and deploy wireless networks based on Cisco Aironet wireless products, with applications for enterprise, small and medium-sized business customers.
Study: CIO hiring up 30 percent
New York-based Highland Partners, a leading retained executive search firm, released a quarterly Executive Moves report for the IT and engineering industries that finds more companies are going to the market for top information technology talent. While the number of companies promoting IT talent from within remained flat, the number of companies recruiting IT executives grew more than 30 percent in the second quarter.
