Compex debuts iWavePort cardbus
Anaheim-based Compex Inc. announced the arrival of the first of several IEEE 802.11g wireless products, the Compex iWavePort WL54G 54Mbps wireless PC cardbus.
Embedded in its chipset is a Prism Nitro Technology that allows the iWavePort WL54G card up to 50 percent greater throughput performance in pure "G" wireless networks and 300 percent in mixed-mode wireless networks with Prism Nitro-supported wireless routers.
With the Compex iWavePort WL54G Cardbus, a notebook user can go from a 54Mbps 2.4GHz 802.11g network at work or at home to any 11Mbps 2.4GHz 802.11b hotspot.

Offering the same functionality as a .com address, the internet's de facto governing body, .la addresses will be available to all Los Angeles residents and businesses.
Brand names such as www.yahoo.la and www.rolex.la are already registered. Independent forecasts suggest up to one million .la names will be registered over the coming years, since L.A. has over 300,000 registered businesses and 10 million citizens.
DPS ships dual-format, dual-interface DVD burner
Anaheim-based Digital Peripheral Solutions Inc. is shipping its new Que! DVD 2i dual format dual interface drive with direct-to-disk recording (DDR).
The external DVD burner offers IEEE-1394 (FireWire) and USB 2.0 interfaces and supports DVD+RW, DVD-RW, DVD+R, DVD-R, CD-R and CD-RW formats for PC and Macintosh.
Magic, iWay team up for integration market
Irvine-based Magic Software Enterprises, a provider of integration and development technology, and iWay Software, an Information Builders company, announced a partnership to provide prepackaged adapters for the iBOLT Integration Suite.
iBOLT includes support for Business Process Management (BPM), monitoring and real-time reporting.
IDG lauds Pronto Networks
Pleasanton-based Pronto Networks, a provider of carrier-class OSS solutions for large Wi-Fi hot spot networks, won an award from IDG's Computerworld, the Voice of IT Management, for leading-edge technology that provides measurable business value to end-user organizations. The honor is part of Computerworld's second annual Innovative Technology Awards.
PSSC works with Idaho University
Los Angeles-based Professional Service Super Computer Laboratories (PSSC Labs) delivered Linux-based clusters, known as Powerwulfs, to the University of Idaho for their research needs.
The custom-configured clusters delivered to the university include Intel Xeon 2.8 GHz processors running a Linux OS optimized for Beowulf systems. The cluster will be used by computer scientists and mathematicians in conjunction with biologists at the institution to conduct research in several fields including studying the genetic information of all living entities and their complex interconnections to each other.
Avesta Magic Software team up
Irvine-based Magic Software Enterprises, a maker of state-of-the-art integration and development technology, announced an agreement with Avesta Computer Services Ltd., a global system integrator based in Jersey City, N.J.
Avesta will become an iBOLT integration partner, helping deliver business integration services using the iBOLT application integration framework from Magic Software Enterprises.
