T/R Systems sold
Electronics For Imaging Inc. (EFI) has completed its purchase of T/R Systems Inc., a Norcross company that makes software for producing and managing digital documents. Foster City, Calif.-based EFI announced in September that it planned to buy T/R Systems for about $21 million in cash or $1.57 per share, subject to certain adjustments. EFI offers imaging products for network printing.
Internet Security to shut down overseas operations
Atlanta-based Internet security company Internet Security Systems Inc. (ISS) will close its engineering operations in Reading, U.K., and Sydney, Australia.
ISS plans to reduce the engineering staff in each location. The Reading office will close by year-end, Sydney will close in the first half of 2004. The engineering personnel in ISS' Mountain View, Calif., operations are not impacted by this announcement and the Atlanta headquarters anticipates additional hires.
Severance, office lease and related costs and other administrative expenses related to closing the Reading and Sydney offices are expected to be recorded in the fourth quarter. This one-time charge is estimated at between $1 million and $1.5 million.
Simputer refurbishes PCs for the needy
Charlotte, N.C.-based Simputer (USA) is supplying refurbished computers to those in need, as well as providing crucial job training. Unwanted machines donated by local businesses and individuals are repaired, refurbished, and upgraded and made available to schools, special need students and low-income families. Donations can be dropped off at 6630 East Harris Blvd. suite J in Charlotte on Tuesdays, 1-5 p.m. or Fridays, 10 a.m.-2 p.m.
Securiant releases SpiderISA
Atlanta-based Securiant Inc., a maker of security products for small to medium-sized and distributed networks, released its SpiderISA integrated security appliance. SpiderISA integrates and delivers five separate security tools (Vulnerability Assessment, Intrusion Detection and Response, Network State Monitoring, Data Correlation, and Event Reporting and Notification) in a single product. SpiderISA is the first fully integrated network security product specifically designed and priced for small to medium-sized and distributed networks.
Georgia Tech nanotech center gets funding
Georgia Tech will soon have its very own nanotechnology research and development center thanks to a $36 million pledge from an anonymous donor.
The Nanotechnology Research Center will be built as early as next year but will not officially open for three years. It will be in the middle of the university's campus where the old nuclear reactor building now stands
Interland debuts Web servers
Atlanta-based Interland, a provider of Web hosting and online services for small and medium-sized businesses, announced the immediate availability of Windows Server 2003 and RedHat Linux 9.0 operating systems, and the PLESK 6.0 control panel for its managed dedicated hosting customers. Interland has optimized the Windows and Linux operating systems for its customers by adding specific tools and components to speed setup and enhance both security and performance in a Web server environment.
Internap completes Sockeye buy
Internap Network Services Corp. completed its acquisition of Sockeye Networks, a route control service provider based in Waltham, Mass. Internap issued unregistered shares of common stock valued at approximately $1.75 million to Sockeye investors. Internap will retain Sockeye's engineering, operations, product support and manufacturing personnel, and will continue to support existing Sockeye customers.
Until full technology integration is complete, Atlanta-based Internap will continue to offer Sockeye's GlobalRoute product. Through the combined research and development talent of netVmg, Sockeye and Internap's existing engineering team, Internap (Nasdaq: INAP) will develop an integrated intelligent route control platform leveraging the technology of Internap, netVmg and Sockeye. Internap provides performance-based routing services over the Internet.
