Hutchison joins Powerhouse board

San Ramon-based Powerhouse Technologies Group, maker of mobile computing products, announced the appointment of R.B. "Rob" Hutchison as a member of its board of directors. Hutchison replaced Jim Palmer, CEO of Key Partners Inc. Hutchison is the founder of eCharge Corp. of Seattle, which specializes in alternative payment methods for the Internet.

Klein new Wind River CEO

Alameda embedded software company Wind River Systems Inc. named Ken Klein to the posts of president, CEO and chairman of the board. The appointment is effective Jan. 5. Klein joined Wind River's board of directors on July 24, and currently serves as chief operating officer of Mercury Interactive Corp., a Sunnyvale business technology optimization company.

InReach offers antispam tool

Stockton-based ISP InReach Internet is offering its dialup and DSL customers InReach SafeReach from Postini, a provider of e-mail security products. InReach said it chose the Postini software for its advanced screening algorithms and low incidence of error. InReach SafeReach's filtering level can be adjust from lenient to aggressive by the customers, giving them personalized control over what types of mail they receive.

ESS chipset picked by Apex

ESS Technology Inc. of Fremont said consumer electronics maker Apex Digital selected the company's MPEG-4 encoder chip for use in its new camcorder. In a statement, ESS said the new chip is designed to permit capture on a Secure Digital, or SD, card to store video, audio and still images. The chip can capture true natural motion video at 30 frames-per-second and up to four mega-pixels digital still camera functionality.

Stata debuts e-mail client

San Mateo-based Stata Laboratories, Inc. introduced Bloomba 1.0, a search-based e-mail client. Engineered with a tightly-integrated search architecture, Bloomba delivers powerful search capabilities and productivity features with spam fighting tools. Using keyword searches, Bloomba automatically scans e-mail addresses, subject fields and message text--even the text within attachments--and achieves near 100 percent accuracy in the results generated.

PaymentOne noted by Deloitte

San Jose-based PaymentOne Corp., a provider of payment solutions and services for ISPs, digital content and premium service providers, was named to Deloitte & Touche's 2003 Technology Fast 50 for Silicon Valley, a ranking of the 50 fastest growing technology companies in the Bay Area. PaymentOne's increase in revenues of over 11,297 percent over the five-year period from 1998 to 2002 resulted in an overall ranking of 10 in the Fast 50 for Silicon Valley.

PaymentOne is a payment service provider for the Internet.

Bucher new Adept CEO

Adept Technology Inc. said chief executive Brian Carlisle has been replaced with Robert H. Bucher, who will serve as chairman and CEO of the Livermore-based maker of factory automation equipment. The company said Carlisle, who co-founded Adept in 1983, will continue as a director and assume a new role as president of the company, where he will have direct responsibility for engineering and operations. Prior to joining Adept, Bucher was with Measurex Corp., a maker of process optimization gear that was acquired by Honeywell International in 1998.

Kadri named Dolch VP

Fremont-based Dolch, the world leader in delivering industrial portable computer solutions, named Michael Kadri vice president of sales. He will assume sales responsibility for the Americas, as well as Asia and Australia.

Amer.Net teams with Time Warner

San Francisco-based ISP Amer.Net announced a partnership with Time Warner Telecom to provide The Presidio of San Francisco with broadband Internet access. Amer.Net will assist in the monitoring of the Presidio Trust's Internet services on behalf of Time Warner Telecom in the agreement.
