Kintera buys Little Tornados, VirtualSprockets
San Diego-based Kintera Inc., a provider of software as a service to nonprofit organizations, announced the acquisition of Web developer Little Tornadoes and Internet applications firm VirtualSprockets. Nonprofits including the American Lung Association, Special Olympics, use the Kintera Sphere enterprise platform, built on a unified database, provides organizations valuable tools to foster a powerful sense of community.
Compex introduces ethernet kit cover
Anaheim-based Compex Inc., a provider of wireless connectivity and communication products, introduced a new customized weatherproof casing for the Compex WP11B+ and POE-100 Ethernet Kit. The weatherproof casing is primarily targeted for use in hotspots such as cafes, small businesses, coffeehouses, airports, and school campuses. The casing can be used to station Compex wireless access points and antennas on building rooftops.
Northrop IT lands Army contract
Northrop Grumman Corp.'s Herndon, Va., information technology sector has been awarded a U.S. Army contract to support overhauling the Army's information technology infrastructure. Five contractors will share the $500 million, three-year Information Technology Enterprise Solutions (ITES)-Enterprise Mission Support Services Solutions (EMS3) contract.
The IT unit's work is anticipated to include, among other things, program management, enterprise IT policy and planning, enterprise design, and test and evaluation. Northrop Grumman Information Technology provides IT services to the federal government and commercial clients. It is a unit of Los Angeles-based Northrop Grumman Corp..
Tetra Tech wins Army contract
Tetra Tech Inc. of Pasadena will provide engineering services to the U.S. Army Industrial Ecology Center under a new three-year, $9.7 million contract.
Tetra Tech's major goal will be to help the Army implement environmental management systems at its sites. The Army's Industrial Ecology Center is part of the U.S. Army Armament Research, Development and Engineering Center, located at Picatinny, N.J. Tetra Tech provides consulting, engineering and technical services.
CompuMed signs distribution deal
Los Angeles-based diagnostic software maker CompuMed Inc. signed a five-year distribution agreement with medical equipment seller National Imaging Resources of Willoughby, Ohio. NIR's nearly 200 sales representatives will sell CompuMed's patented osteoporosis screening system, OsteoGram.
PW Marketing loses spam case
Canyon Country-based PW Marketing and owners Paul Willis and Claudia Griffin have been ordered to pay $2 million in civil penalties for violating state laws prohibiting unsolicited commercial e-mail, false advertising and unfair business practices, according to California Attorney General Bill Lockyer.
The judgment entered by Santa Clara County Superior Court against the Los Angeles County-based defendants came in the first action filed by the state of California under its antispam law. In addition to the $2 million in civil penalties, the judgment substantially restricts the business practices of PW Marketing, Willis and Griffin.
DataLogic, Kiboga call off merger
Irvine-based technology services provider DataLogic International Inc. and Kiboga Systems Inc. have called off a proposed merger. DataLogic had announced its intention to buy Addison, Texas-based Kiboga for an undisclosed price. But DataLogic said it canceled the agreement because of shareholder concerns related to an existing relationship between Kiboga and GreyStone Digital Technology Inc., also of Addison. Kiboga makes software and systems for law enforcement agencies.
