Columbitech releases Embedded Client
New York-based wireless security software developer Columbitech announced the availability of Columbitech Embedded Client API, which enables device manufacturers to create secure VPN clients for any wireless device that has a non-standard operating system. The API is designed for all wireless devices that previously had no security solution such as wireless cash registers, wireless printers, and telematics devices. By using Columbitech Embedded Client API, customers extend the lifecycle of their legacy devices by eliminating the need to buy new wireless equipment just to gain security.
Netsmart reports client upgrades
Islip-based Netsmart Technologies Inc. signed upgrade contracts with 10 clients with a combined value of about $1.25 million. Netsmart sells software to health and human services providers through its Creative Socio-Medics subsidiary. Its Avatar suite is its flagship product.
Bruce new Curative CIO
Hauppage-based Curative Health Services Inc. named a new chief information officer as part of a move to put all of its computer systems on one platform.
Anne Bruce, a former IBM and Ernst & Young executive most recently with Lake Forrest, Ill.-based eLoyalty Corp., will lead the firm's information technology operations.
Comtech gains Asian order
Melville-based Comtech Telecommunications Corp. received a $1 million follow-on equipment order from an unnamed cellular operator in Southeast Asia. The equipment, ordered through Comtech's Tempe, Ariz., subsidiary, Comtech EF Data Corp., will be used for connecting several GSM cellular coverage areas together with a satellite data link.
Softheon noted by Deloitte
For the fourth year in a row, Hauppauge-based Softheon Inc., a provider of business process software solutions for the financial services, insurance, and healthcare industries, has been named to Deloitte & Touche's Technology Fast 50 program. The Fast 50 awards rank the 50 fastest growing technology companies on Long Island. Rankings are based on the percentage of growth in revenues for the five-year period from 1998-2002.
Tech group unveils wall of fame
In a ceremony at the Reckson Center on Nassau's Museum Row, the Long Island Technology Hall of Fame was unveiled recently. The event was sponsored by the Long Island Museum of Science and Technology. Founded in 2001, Hall of Fame honorees include: Raymond Damadian, founder of Fonar Corp.; Louis Alan Hazeltine, founder of Hazeltine Corp. (now BAE Systems); John Marburger III, director of the federal Office of Science and Technology Policy; Leroy Grumman, founder of Grumman Aircraft Engineering Corp; Jerome Swartz, former chairman, Symbol Technologies; Charles Wang, founder of Computer Associates; James Watson, president of Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory and Nobel Laureate; Chen Ning Yang, Nobel Laureate; and Elmer Ambrose Sperry, inventor.
Gordano releases Collaboration Server
New York-based Gordano Ltd., a developer of Web-based enterprise messaging products, has released GMS Collaboration Server Phase 1. The Collaboration Server will fully integrate Outlook's and GMS's e-mail functions, including Outlook's calendaring, scheduling, tasks, journals and notes features.
Juliano new Symbol exec
Holtsville-based Symbol Technologies Inc. named IBM executive Philip Juliano as senior vice president and chief marketing officer. Juliano will be responsible for Symbol's global marketing and communications strategy and operations and report to Richard Bravman, Symbol chief executive officer and acting chairman.
