TrueActive, Remote Data team up

Kirkland-based TrueActive Software, a maker of PC activity monitoring software, and Remote Data Storage (RDS), a maker of secure data storage and backup products, said TrueActive Software will offer RDS's hosted data storage services to its enterprise customers. Under the agreement, customers using TrueActive's WinWhatWhere PC activity monitoring software will be able to archive their records to RDS' hosted offsite data storage.

Microvision completes stock sale

Bothell-based Microvision Inc. completed the sale of 3.56 million shares of common stock at $6.25 per share, raising $22.25 million from unnamed institutional investors. The maker of high-resolution displays and imaging systems said participants in the financing included new and existing shareholders.

E. Washington, BCC team up for degree program

Bellevue-based Eastern Washington University (EWU) and Bellevue Community College (BCC) are offering their second joint program for completing an EWU bachelor's degree on the BCC campus. The new degree program is interdisciplinary, combining studies in social and behavioral sciences. It joins a bachelor's degree completion program in applied technology. The degree completion programs provide the final two years of a bachelor's degree. The first two years may be completed through BCC associate degrees.ÊAn additional 90 to 100 credits, taken at Bellevue Community College, completes each bachelor's degree, which is then granted by Eastern Washington University.

Drugstore.com to buy lens e-tailer

Bellevue-based Drugstore.com Inc. agreed to buy International Vision Direct Corp., an online seller of contacts and vision accessories, for $10 million in cash and 6.8 million shares of stock. Austin, Texas-based International Vision Direct operates several Web sites specializing in sales of branded contact lenses from Bausch & Lomb, Ciba Vision, Johnson & Johnson and others. Drugstore.com said International Vision had more than $35 million in sales through the first nine months of 2003.

UW Extension offers Software Testing certificate

The University of Washington Extension is offering a Certificate Program in Software Testing starting in January in Bellevue. Program participants will learn the basics of software testing, how to document the results of software tests, and how to plan efficient and effective test practices. UW extension offers related certificates in Programming Language, Network Technologies, Information Technology, and Management. EdGate, Wyoming extend tech partnership

Gig Harbor-based EdGate, a provider of Internet-based learning content, announced a new partnership with the Wyoming Department of Education to continue providing Internet-based educational tools and content to Wyoming students and educators. Under the five-year agreement, EdGate will continue helping Wyoming schools implement its statewide online learning community, known as WEdGate, an Internet-based collection of tools and content that provides information, products and services to improve K-12 student achievement.

Cray supercomputer to be based on Red Storm

Seattle-based Cray Inc. will introduce a new line of supercomputers next year based on the technology it's developing for the U.S. government at Sandia National Laboratory in New Mexico. The Sandia computer, called Red Storm, is being designed to help the National Nuclear Security Administration work out complex weapons problems. The Sandia system is expected to be one of the fastest computers ever made, able to perform about 40 trillion calculations per second (40 teraflops). Customers other than Sandia could get a system of different size, but still built with Red Storm's 64-bit processor, designed by Advanced Micro Devices Inc. and based on Linux.
