Magic signs pharmaceutical pact

King of Prussia-based Magic Software Enterprises, a maker of business integration and development products, said its subsidiary CoreTech Consulting Group closed a new two year $2.2 million contract to provide support services to a large pharmaceutical company. CoreTech will provide support services to a growing client base that stands at around 7,000 end-users. CoreTech also received a $2 million, two-year contract to provide information-technology support services to a major U.S. government agency. CoreTech will provide IT-support and server-management services for the agency.

Oki Data debuts publishing software

Mt. Laurel, N.J.-based Oki Data Americas Inc. released PrintShop Mail, a variable data printing product to be used in coordination with the company's digital color printers. Designed for both Windows and Macintosh users, PrintShop Mail allows users to combine virtually any database file with any Postscript-compatible design application to deliver a variable data printing solution at or near the printer's rated engine speed.

Company sues over translation system

The Haddonfield, N.J.-based Translation Group Ltd. filed a lawsuit in U.S. District Court in Camden, N.J., to gain control of an automated system that it thinks can revolutionize translation. Principal defendants in the company's suit are Applied Knowledge Systems International Ltd. and Gedanken Corp. The Translation Group alleges it has paid Gedanken/Applied Knowledge more than $1.8 million for the rights to the Gedanken Translation System and has received nothing in return. The suit alleges, among other things, patent infringement, breach of contract and misrepresentation and seeks to have the Translation Group's rights to the system confirmed.

SunGard Market to buy Fame

SunGard Market Data Services, an operating group of Wayne-based SunGard Data Systems Inc., agreed to acquire Fame Information Services Inc. for an undisclosed amount. Fame is based in New York. SunGard Market Data said it expects the acquisition to close in the first quarter of next year. It doesn't expect the acquisition to affect SunGard Data Systems' financial results.

Fame provides technology and services to fill the market-data needs of the energy and financial industries. Its education division, which provides training programs to the energy industry, isn't included in the acquisition. SunGard Data Systems develops software and processes trades for the financial-services industry. It also helps organizations keep their computer systems running during disasters.

Metrologic gains contract with United Airlines

Blackwood, N.J.-based Metrologic Instruments Inc., which makes imaging and scanning products, was awarded a contract for bar code scanning equipment and installation services for United Airlines' baggage handling systems. The company will build and install scanning stations and tunnels using one of its industrial scanners. The contract provides for the purchase and installation of separate scanning systems over the next several months.

Bio-Imaging buys CapMed assets

Bio-Imaging Technologies Inc. of Newtown acquired the intellectual property of privately held CapMed Corp. including its Personal Health Record software and the patent-pending Personal HealthKey technology. Wilmington, Del.-based CapMed's Personal Health Record software product enables users to manage and store personal health information, including medical images, on their desktop computers. It is used to helps doctors, clinics and hospitals reduce the risk of errors as well as improve medical compliance and communication between patients and providers. The Personal HealthKey is a product that allows users to take specific health reports or their entire medical record, including diagnostic medical images, anywhere. Using key-chain data storage technology and auto-launching software, the HealthKey plugs into a computer's USB port, allowing doctors and patients access to the medical record without the need for additional hardware or software.
