New Jersey Metrologic expanding in China
Blackwood-based Metrologic Instruments Inc., which makes imaging and scanning solutions for point-of-sale, commercial and industrial applications, will expand its manufacturing and research and development facility in Suzhou, China. It has also opened a second sales and support office in Guangzhou (Canton) China. Metrologic's wholly owned subsidiary, Metro (Suzhou) Technologies Co. Ltd. is located in Suzhou, near Shanghai and currently employs more than 300 people. Phase one of the building construction project began in December and will add more than 24,000 square feet to the existing building. Phase two will include construction of a 75,000-square-foot multistory building. The company noted that its sales throughout China have been growing at a fast rate over the past few years. Metrologic anticipates additional offices in key cities in 2004.
Globespan Virata debuts wireless chip
GlobespanVirata is hoping to grab a share of the lucrative wireless networking market with a product that allows homes and small offices speedier access to e-mail, corporate data networks and the Internet. The Red Bank-based maker of computer chips has begun selling software embedded on a chip that it claims is up to 40 times faster than other wireless products on the market. It is particularly effective with Wi-Fi, or "wireless fidelity," an increasingly popular technology used to connect wirelessly to the Internet. The marketplace for wireless chips is expected to grow to about $1.1 billion by 2007.
Brother debuts labeler
Brother International Corp., a manufacturer of electronic labeling systems, launched the new P-touch PT-9500PC industrial labeling system for commercial users. The new P-touch computer label printer enables users to clearly identify and track assets and inventory, even those with flat, textured or slippery surfaces, with high resolution (360 dpi) laminated and industrial strength laminated labels in sizes to 1 1/2 inches wide. It can print labels from databases, including automatic date and time stamps and barcodes. The machine uses PT-editor 4.0 software that includes 16 industry standard bar codes (including 2D barcode protocols) and pre-designed templates, symbols and clip art, with the ability to save and recall frequently used label designs. It can import graphics as well as drag-and-drop database fields.
Audible.com, YES24 launch audio service
Wayne-based Audible, Inc., a provider of digitally delivered spoken word audio, and YES24 Inc., Korea's largest online book, music, video/DVD and software retailer, announced the launch of YESAudible, an international marketing and distribution initiative. YES24 launched its YESAudible service, with links to YESAudible, the audio download portal, appearing on the www.yes24.com home page. Web surfers who click on these icons are taken to the YESAudible main Web page, where detailed links introduce, explain, and promote Audible's English-language spoken audio downloads and the YESAudible service.
Probe releases VoP study
According to a new study by Cedar Knolls-based Probe Group, national and international long distance voice over packet (VoP) traffic will grow from 161 billion minutes of use (MOUs) in 2003 to 1.4 trillion MOUs in 2008.
"Voice over Packet Basic Services: Traffic Analysis and Market Trends," a new report from Probe Group, forecasts the market for VOP services and their impact on the traditional voice market. Probe's recent report, "Voice over Packet Basic Services: Traffic Analysis and Market Trends," analyzes the migration from TDM to packet based voiced service. Included are regional forecasts for the domestic and international long distance markets. This report is part of the Voice Over Packet Markets service, which provides ongoing coverage and analysis of the global voice over packet service and equipment markets.
