OpVantage launches self-assessment tool
New York-based OpVantage released its new integrated self-assessment tool, OpVar Risk and Control Self Assessment. RCSA is a Java-based Web application that facilitates the collection and management of qualitative operational risk information throughout an organization. OpVantage said RCSA is the only product on the market that provides access to a library of over 4,200 case studies through the First database, linking qualitative assessments to quantitative measures.
Park names R&D chief
Lake Success-based circuitboard materials maker Park Electrochemical Corp. named Konstantine N. "Gus" Karavakis as director of research and development.
Karavakis will be responsible for the company's global research and development activities and will have central leadership responsibilities regarding development of technology. Karavakis worked most recently as director of technology for Nexcleon Inc., a Sunnyvale, Calif., firm that provides products for the semiconductor industry.
Acclaim signs deal with BattleBorne
Glen Cove-based Acclaim Entertainment Inc. agreed to an exclusive global publishing agreement with BattleBorne Entertainment Inc. for a yet-to-be-announced video game. BattleBorne, Reno, Nevada, was formed in 2002 and includes developers of the "Fallout 2," "Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance" and "Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon" games.
Standard Micro gets arbitration award
Hauppage-based Standard Microsystems Corp.announced that it has received an arbitration award of $2.7 million related to the sale of its majority stake in SMC Networks Inc. to Accton Technology Corp. in October 1997. Last September, Standard Micro, which makes input and output hardware for PCs, received notice that the arbitration panel had directed the release of $2.5 million from an escrow account as well as additional payments from Accton. Under the $2.7 million settlement, Standard Micro will post a net gain of about $100,000 after taxes, which will be recorded as a gain on discontinued operations in the fourth quarter of fiscal-year 2004, the company said.
NewspaperDirect debuts digital service
New York-based NewspaperDirect, a technology company specializing in the digital delivery of same-day editions of newspapers from around the world, will be launching a digital newspaper service for libraries. The service enables libraries to provide their patrons with same-day editions of out-of-state and international newspapers.
MarketWatch.com picks Kanoodle.com
New York-based Kanoodle.com Inc., a provider of sponsored listings for search and content, said MarketWatch.com Inc., a leading multimedia publisher of business news and information, selected Kanoodle.com to provide content-targeted sponsored links on its Web sites. Kanoodle.com also announced the launch of its content-targeted sponsored links product, ContextTarget, the only available sponsored links product built solely for content targeting.
Under the terms of the deal, Kanoodle.com will provide sponsored links on MarketWatch's award-winning sites, CBS MarketWatch and BigCharts.
Symbol CEO resigns
Holtsville-based Symbol Technologies Inc., the world's largest maker of bar-code scanners, said CEO Richard Bravman resigned to help the company resolve a government investigation into its past accounting practices.
The board named President and Chief Operating Officer William Nuti to succeed Bravman as CEO. Board member Salvatore Iannuzzi was named chairman.
Veramark, DataVox win telephony account
Pittsford-based Veramark Technologies, Inc. secured a significant call accounting software sale through DataVox Business Communications as part of a Cisco Internet Protocol (IP) telephony solution. IP telephony refers to communications services--voice, facsimile, and/or voice-messaging applications--transmitted through the Internet rather than the public switched telephone network.
