CompuTaught software to be used in study
Atlanta-based CompuTaught Inc. said its academic software, SmartMath, has been selected for participation in a study mandated by the U.S. Congress and funded by the U.S. Department of Education. This study will evaluate the effectiveness of computer-based instruction for improving reading and math skills. Results from the study will be presented to Congress and will provide information for policymakers and educators on the effective use of educational technology to improve student achievement in reading and math.
Chemical firm picks Agilisys
Atlanta-based Agilisys Inc., a maker of enterprise software for manufacturers, said Sartomer Company of Exton, Pa., selected Agilisys Demand Planning to improve forecasting for the company's product line and customer base. Sartomer will integrate Agilisys Demand Planning with its existing ERP system from Agilisys, to generate a more accurate and centralized demand plan to drive production and reduce inventory costs. Sartomer makes specialty chemicals.
Sybase completes XcelleNet Inc. purchase
Dublin, Calif.-based Sybase Inc. finished its acquisition of Alpharetta-based frontline management software company XcelleNet Inc. from investment firm Francisco Partners. Sybase plans to integrate XcelleNet into its iAnywhere Solutions subsidiary, which provides mobile database, mobile middleware and mobile and remote device management. Sybase makes enterprise infrastructure and mobile software.
PrintMobile releases remote printing product
PrintMobile said it released PrintMobile 1.0. The product offers management and mobile workers printing functionality by assigning an e-mail address directly to a printer. Once the product is installed and configured, mobile or desktop users wishing to print simply mail documents to the chosen printer's electronic mailbox. Based in Los Altos, Calif., PrintMobile has a sales office in Atlanta.
UGA gets E-TEACH grant
The Learning and Performance Support Laboratory (LPSL), a collaborative group of professors and research scientists based in The University of Georgia College of Education, received a $1.06 million federal grant for a project to better prepare future teachers to use technology in their classrooms. The grant will fund a three-year project titled "Evidence-based Technology Enhanced Alternative Curriculum in Higher Education" or E-TEACH. Faculty and students from nearly a dozen departments in the education college and five more in the Franklin College of Arts and Sciences will be involved in the project.
The project emphasizes a blend of technology integration in teacher education courses, in core arts and sciences undergraduate courses, and specialized applications in "majors" courses in both colleges. The grant comes from a U.S. Department of Education program that was begun in 1999 called "Preparing Tomorrow's Teachers to Use Technology."
NewEnergy teams with Geac
Atlanta-based NewEnergy Associates, a maker of business products for the energy enterprise, signed a partnership agreement with Canadian software company Geac. The companies have combined NewEnergy Impact with Geac Performance Management software to offer a new performance management product.
DigitalSwift Updates CDBundle.com
Atlanta-based DigitalSwift Corp., the parent company of SwiftCD.com, announced an update to one of its CDBundle.com service. The Web site now includes enhanced service descriptions, updated special offers and a more intuitive layout. CDBundle.com was created in order to offer software consumers special values on a choice assortment of the best software from the partners of SwiftCD.
