Sinbon noted by GEMS

New York-based Sinbon, which makes customized cables, connectors, USB and mobile computing technologies, said GE Medical Systems China (GEMS) has selected it as its Best Supplier within the cable assembly category for the third consecutive year. The company also said that USA Instruments, a subsidiary of GE Medical, selected Sinbon Technologies as the exclusive manufacturer of customized cable assemblies for a line of its MRI machines.

ACII expands conversion tool

Pittsford-based Advanced Computer Innovations Inc., has expanded its Internet-based instant online conversion service to include the latest WordPerfect Suite 11. It now converts users' files between most word processor, spreadsheet and graphics file formats, as well as some data base formats. It also performs conversion of almost any such file to PDF.

Practising Law Institute debuts Web-based course

The New York-based Practising Law Institute and Arizona-based Corpedia Education released of a series of Web-based, eLearning courses in the area of money laundering. PLI-Corpedia has developed three courses in the area of money laundering: Understanding and Preventing Money Laundering; Understanding and Preventing Money Laundering: A Guide for the Financial Services Industry; and Understanding and Preventing Money Laundering: A Guide for the Insurance Industry.

Columbitech gains funding

New York-based wireless software developer Columbitech announced that Japanese venture capital company Mobile Internet Capital Inc. increased its financial interest in Columbitech by investing $1.5 million. MIC joined the existing group of Columbitech investors in early 2003.

PrimeCare system being used in sheriff's office

A new patient management system is being used by the Virginia Beach Sheriff's Office to screen inmates for medical problems. New Rochelle-based PrimeCare Systems Inc., a subsidiary of OCG Technology Inc. said its PrimeCare Patient Management System Version Nine is being used at two jailhouses, Virginia Beach City and Hampton City, to identify prisoners that may require chronic care.

Using Prime Care, the inmate completes a detailed medical history by answering complaint-specific questions drawn from 280 symptom and problem-oriented medical sources. From this questionnaire, Prime Care generates a preliminary report containing the inmate's current problems, medications and allergies, all positive and significant negative subjective responses, vital signs and a list of the diagnostic considerations triggered by the responses.

Telitas AS sets up U.S. office

New York-based Telitas AS, an SMS (short message service) and mobile messaging service provider, formed its first U.S. venture, Telitas US Inc. to capitalize on the burgeoning multi-billion dollar global mobile content-based services industry. Telitas US Inc., which will focus on bridging the gap between content owners and wireless carriers, will have offices in New York and Los Angeles.

As a first step in accelerating its U.S. business, Telitas US, Inc. has acquired Proteus, the United States' leading provider of wireless applications and carrier connectivity to the content community.

Proginet updates CyberFusion

Garden City-based software maker Proginet released CyberFusion 5.5, an enhanced version of its secure file transfer software. With CyberFusion 5.5, businesses with small IT departments--and as few as 500 employees--can quickly and easily deploy and use the software for secure file transfer. CyberFusion was originally designed to let large enterprises exchange information securely across different computing systems and diverse geographic areas.

Sign-Out Board debuts

New York-based Stephen Pool recently introduced Sign-Out Board, a Web site offering small and midsized businesses a way to view and post employee schedules. Essentially an online "mark-it" board, with a look and feel similar to the traditional dry-erase marker board, Sign-Out Board allows users to view or update their schedules from any online connection. Real-time updates ensure that schedule information always remains current. Weekly schedules are based on the standard Monday through Friday business workweek and a simple pull-down menu allows users to select any given week in a five-year period.
