Shavlik teams with NetIQ
St. Paul-based Shavlik Technologies, a provider of security software and services, said NetIQ Corp., a provider of systems and security management and Web analytics, formed an OEM agreement with Shavlik. NetIQ will re-brand Shavlik's flagship security patch management application, Shavlik HFNetChkPro as NetIQ Patch Manager and integrate it into NetIQ's Security Management Suite.
Lawson makes management moves
Lawson Software Inc. announced several management moves. Mike Bevilacqua, the senior vice president of strategic finance and planning, will be responsible for incorporating Lawson's goals into its overall planning and funding effort. He reports to Robert Barbieri, Lawson's chief financial officer. Dean Hager, chief product officer, will oversee all research and development and product management, as well as product marketing and pricing. Scott Meyer, chief marketing and human resources officer, will oversee corporate strategy, organization development and relations with the media, community and industry analysts. Eric Morgan, who runs Lawson's healthcare industry practice, will add the company's retail-sector business to his responsibilities. He replaces Jim DeSocio, who left the company after building up the retail practice. Joanne Byrd will assume leadership of Lawson's Industry Markets practice, which includes banking, insurance and other financial services areas. Tom D'Alessandro will assume leadership for field operations, partner relationships, maintenance and distribution.
Johanson new KD2 VP
Minneapolis-based Knowledge Design & Delivery said Polly Johanson was promoted to vice president of the company. She previously was a project manager, writer, and training designer for Knowledge Design & Delivery.
QualTech sold to Windsor Tech
Hightstown, N.J.-based WindsorTech Inc., a data security and environmental compliance service company, bought Eagan-based QualTech International Corp., a privately-held mid-range and mainframe hardware company, including its subsidiary QualTech Services Group, a services technology company.
Under the terms of the agreement, QualTech shareholders will receive a combination of WindsorTech stock and cash totaling $6.5 million. QualTech International sells refurbished IBM mainframes and associated IBM peripherals to companies around the world. In addition, its hardware services arm, QualTech Services Group provides hardware maintenance solutions and information systems consulting services to businesses.
Copernican debuts training product
Minneapolis-based Copernican Inversion recently released its Learn by Doing Web application training process. The process, which requires no code changes to the Web application to be taught, involves creating a training frame in the browser that recognizes the content that the user is looking at and walks the user through the Web application step-by-step providing written and audio instruction combined with the actual carrying out of the tasks by the user. As the user moves from page to page in their training process, the frameset recognizes each page and instructs the user through that page.
PRI to take over Web provider
Minneapolis-based Public Radio International (PRI) will take over Public Interactive, a provider of Internet and Web services for public radio and public television stations. The boards of both organization already approved the plan, as have Public Interactive's shareholders. Public Interactive is currently a for-profit organization. It will become part of PRI and turn into a nonprofit organization, but will retain its headquarters and staff in Boston.
Public Interactive currently has 118 affiliates operating more than 275 radio and television stations.
Chaska expanding wireless Internet service
The city of Chaska is preparing to offer wireless Internet service throughout the city. The service, scheduled to be completed by mid-June, builds on earlier efforts by the city to offer the latest in Internet broadband technology.
The wireless service will be provided by Tropos Network, based in San Mateo, Calif., and is expected to cost about $16 a month for individual subscribers.
