iHost joins with Toronto company
Bellevue-based iHost Networks announced a hosting partnership with Virtual Mechanics of Toronto, Ontario. iHost Networks will provide hosting to customers of its Web editor, SiteSpinner 2.5. SiteSpinner customers will publish to a branded server named iHostVM.
Wood named to tech association
The Silverdale-based West Sound Technology Professionals Association appointed Shari Wood as its ninth and newest at-large member. Wood is a contractor with the U.S. Navy, providing business development, graphic and web design, marketing, and technical support. In addition, she has provided marketing support to Microsoft, Cranium, and Bellevue Community College.
F5 buys MagniFire Web Systems
Seattle-based computer networking company F5 Networks Inc. acquired firewall security company MagniFire WebSystems Inc. for $29 million in cash, and simultaneously launched a new business unit dedicated to Web-traffic security.
F5 officials said MagniFire's TrafficShield security product protects against attacks that can circumvent other network perimeter defenses, and is complementary to the FirePass technology acquired last year when it bought uRoam Inc. MagniFire is headquartered in New York, with research and development facilities in Israel and sales offices in the United Kingdom. F5 said it will continue to operate the research facility in Tel Aviv.
Intune builds site for K-Rock
Seattle-based Intune Media Group announced the launch of a new Website developed for 96.5 K-Rock (KRQI-FM) in Seattle. In addition to general station information, the site gives listeners direct access to local concert and events calendars, entertainment information and a wealth of interactive online contests. Visitors can also check daily headlines, local weather and sports information and find unique opportunities to become involved with the station.

Envision gains CRM award
Seattle-based Envision Telephony Inc., a maker of contact center software products, was named the winner in the Sixth Annual Users Choice Awards, sponsored by CRMAdvocate. Click2Coach, the combination of Envision Quality Monitoring and Envision eLearning, was entered in the category of Contact Center Performance Management. The Users Choice Awards is the only awards program in which customer relationship management (CRM) products are judged by the end-user. Awards will be presented throughout 2004 representing applications and services in the areas of contact center, sales, marketing, service/support and CRM suites.
Anderson new Onyx chief
Onyx Software Corp., a Bellevue-based customer-relationship management (CRM) software company, has hired Janice Anderson as chief executive officer and chairman. She replaces co-founder Brent Frei, who announced in January he is leaving after 10 years. Her experience includes management positions in telecommunications and CRM with Lucent Technologies and its predecessor organization, AT&T Corp. Onyx said Frei will remain a member of the board of directors and continue as a full-time member of the executive team to assist Anderson during the transition.
Clearwire due to launch
Wireless mogul Craig McCaw announced the launch of his newest venture,Clearwire Corp., and said the new wireless service will launch commercial service this summer in Jacksonville, Fla. Kirkland-based Clearwire will offer wireless broadband voice and Internet services to residences and small and medium-sized businesses. McCaw, who founded and sold McCaw Cellular Communications Corp. to AT&T Corp. in 1994 for $11.4 billion, is Clearwire's chairman and CEO. Rob Mechaley, an expert in wireless data services and a longtime McCaw business partner, is Clearwire's chief technology officer.
