Pronto, Tropos team up

Pleasanton-based Pronto Networks, a provider of carrier-class operations support systems (OSS) for managing large Wi-Fi hot spot and hot zone networks, and Sunnyvale-based Tropos Networks, a supplier of equipment used to build metro-scale Wi-Fi networks, announced a strategic partnership to drive Wi-Fi hot zone deployments.

The two companies have enabled metro-scale broadband service in two municipalities to date: Chaska, Minn., and Cerritos, Calif.

The joint Pronto/Tropos metro-area Wi-Fi solution enables system integrators to quickly and cost-effectively deploy large scale Wi-Fi hot zones, enabling subscriber management, multiple service plans and authentication methods for different types of users in the hot zone.

The end-to-end product consists of Pronto's carrier-grade Operations Support System (OSS) for broadband wireless networks, Pronto's Hotzone Gateway, Tropos 5110 Wi-Fi cells, and the Tropos Control element manager.

A's use NetSuite software

San Mateo-based software provider NetSuite Inc. said the Oakland Athletics baseball team is using its NetSuite on-demand software to automate its ticket sales and marketing campaigns.

NetSuite makes enterprise resource planning and customer resource management applications for use through the Internet.

Kofoed joins Mom Inventors

Walnut Creek-based Mom Inventors, Inc. said Brad Kofoed, formerly the vice president of Business Development for software maker EVault Inc., was hired as president and director of sales.

Mom Inventors makes products for the infant and juvenile industry.

Perez new Panasas president

Fremont-based Panasas Inc., which sells scalable network storage for Linux clusters, named Victor Perez president and CEO.

Perez was president and CEO of Chaparral Network Storage Corp. before the company's acquisition by Dot Hill Systems. Prior to joining Chaparral, he was as executive vice president and chief operating officer at Storage Technology Corp.

Cyanea to be sold to IBM

Computer giant IBM will buy Cyanea, an Oakland-based software maker, for an undisclosed amount.

Cyanea makes software that monitors and manages the performance of Web-based business applications. Its software helps applications run faster and with less downtime, the company said. Cyanea's customers include global financial services firms, retailers, government agencies and manufacturers.

Cyanea's operations and 75 employees will be integrated into IBM's Tivoli systems management software division.

PeopleSoft gains $50 million deal

Pleasanton-based PeopleSoft Inc. won its largest combined software and services contract ever with Mexico's Tax Administration Service (SAT), the Mexican equivalent of the IRS.

The SAT will install PeopleSoft's enterprise resource planning and customer relationship management software that aims to help Mexico improve the efficiency and responsiveness of the tax system and as well as decrease tax evasion.

SAT's current system has many databases that are not integrated well with each other.

The World Bank will fund the project. IBM Business Consulting Services and SPL WorldGroup will assist PeopleSoft.

Prokinetic moves to Texas

Prokinetic Technology Inc., a developer of custom Internet software, has moved its Pleasanton headquarters to Austin, Texas.

The company said it moved to take advantage of Austin's central location and its pool of software developers.

The company has five employees in Austin, with a software developer to be added soon. Eight employees remain in Northern California at the company's West Coast outpost.

Prokinetic's client roster includes Sony Financial Services, AutoSite Inc., and Wausau Mortgage.
