Anoka-Ramsey gets Science Foundation grant

Anoka-Ramsey Community College in Coon Rapids has been awarded a $385,000 grant by the National Science Foundation to create scholarships for low-income, academically talented students enrolled in math, engineering, computer science or computer networking and telecommunications programs.

The new scholarship program, called Increasing Access and Diversity in Computer Science, Engineering and Math (CSEMS), will aim to help underrepresented populations pursue careers in science.

Group receives tech grant

The University of Minnesota's Center for Urban and Regional Affairs, in partnership with various state agencies and community organizations, was awarded a three-year, $600,000 Technology Opportunities Program (TOP) grant from the U.S. Department of Commerce to create a strategy for expanding economic opportunity in and around the Twin Cities.

The initiative, called Minnesota 3-D (M3D), will provide an integrated, Internet-accessible system of employment, housing and development information and analysis tools for neighborhoods, community development corporations, employment trainers, businesses, central cities, suburbs, counties, and state agencies in Minnesota. The goal of the system is topromote community economic development, with an emphasis on creating jobs and housing in close proximity to one another.

Ontrack updates PowerControls

Minneapolis-based Ontrack Data Recovery, a provider of data recovery products and services, released Ontrack PowerControls 3.0 software, the newest version of its mailbox recovery tool.

The upgraded version helps Microsoft Exchange administrators save time and deliver better recovery performance with expanded email system support for IBM/Tivoli users and new automation from the command line.

Land O'Lakes uses Stellent

Eden Prairie-based Stellent Inc. a provider of content management products, said Land O'Lakes is using Stellent Universal Content Management across its enterprise to tackle a variety of content management challenges.

Land O'Lakes has partnered with Stellent since the late 1990s. Currently, Land O'Lakes uses the document management, Web content management, and imaging components of the Stellent technology to store and manage project documentation; intranet, extranet and public Web site content; and accounts payable, credit and human resources information.

Cornerstone among fast-growing companies

Minneapolis-based Cornerstone Consulting, an IT service provider, said it ranked 28th among Minnesota‚s fastest growing private companies according to the 2004 Twin Cities Business Journal Growth 50 list.

The ranking is based on total revenue growth from 2001 to 2003, a period in which Cornerstone achieved 76.2 percent revenue growth.

Open Systems wins quality award

Minneapolis-based Open Systems, Inc., a single-source provider of accounting, CRM, e-business, manufacturing and distribution software for the mid-market, was presented the Annual Quality Award in the Reseller Program category by K2 Enterprises.

This is the fifth year K2 Enterprises has given these awards, and the third consecutive win for Open Systems in the Reseller Program category.

ADC sells Metrica software

ADC Telecommunications agreed to sell its Metrica service-assurance group for $35 million in cash to WatchMark Corp. of Bellevue, Wash.

Metrica has about 250 employees, which will be absorbed by WatchMark.

In the first three quarters of ADC's fiscal year, Nov. 1, 2003 - July 31, 2004, Metrica sales were about $21 million while the unit posted an operating loss of about $2 million.

In June, ADC sold its customer care and billing division SingleView to Intec Telecom Systems in Britain for $74.5 million in cash.
