COOP announces distribution pact
McLean, Va.-based COOP Systems, which makes business continuity planning
software, entered into an agreement with Atlanta-based Cherry Systems
Data Recovery to distribute and support the myCOOP continuity planning
and recovery system from COOP Systems.
Existing clients of Cherry Systems will immediately be able to use the
myCOOP system. Clients with older disaster recovery plans can also
convert and upgrade those systems as part of the Cherry Systems
offering.
Discrete Technologies updates SecureDisc
Arlington, Va.-based Discrete Technologies released the latest version
of SecureDisc, the newest product in its suite of disc productivity
tools.
SecureDisc allows organizations to control access to sensitive,
confidential, proprietary or classified information stored on CD and DVD
media.
Mesa updates Beholder searching software
District-based Mesa Dynamics released Beholder 2.0, an upgrade to its
Internet image-searching utility for Macintosh.
Beholder searches for images on the Web, automatically querying Internet
search engines and presenting thumbnail results in a navigable contact
sheet with URL and other link details.
Beholder 2.0 features improved handling of large thumbnail collections,
including link verification for rapid confirmation of accessibility of
source images and direct image downloading.
Cybertrust gains federal contract
Herndon, Va.-based information security company Cybertrust won a Federal
Government contract for the public key infrastructure technology
component of the pilot for the new Australian ePassport.
Cybertrust was selected by the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade
(DFAT) to provide Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) technology to protect
the biometric data on the passport.
One of the driving forces behind the move to biometric passports
globally is the deadline of October 2005, when it will become compulsory
for all travellers from countries that are part of the US visa waiver
program to have biometric identifiers in their passports.
TecAccess gets Education Department contract
Rockville, Va.-based TecAccess was awarded a four-year, $2.5 million
contract for Assistive Technology Program Support by the Department of
Education.
TecAccess will staff and maintain an accessibility testing laboratory
and provide customer support to Department of Education employees.
TecAccess will perform accessibility assessments and make specific
recommendations for accessible technology solutions to meet the needs of
federal employees with disabilities. Accessible Systems of Maryland
will subcontract to TecAccess to assist in delivering services to the
Department of Education.
TecAccess provides compliance and IT/Web accessibility services.
Video Convergence debuts encoders, decoders
Springfield, Va.-based Video Convergence, the video surveillance
products and integration services division of Cornet Technology Inc.
(CTI), announced the availability of iVDO Streamer 2/4 encoders and
decoders at Transpo 2004 in Jacksonville, Fla.
The iVDO Streamer 2/4 enables simultaneous streaming of MPEG-2 and
MPEG-4 video for IP-based video systems.
D.C. among best digital governments
The Center for Digital Government's 2004 Digital Cities Survey ranked
Washington No. 8 on its list of best use of digital technologies to
serve its citizens by cities with a population over 250,000.
D.C. was No. 1 in the survey's "Best of the Web" category.
The District's overall ranking is up from 20th place last year. No.1 in
the 250,000-plus category was Virginia Beach, followed by Tucson, Ariz.;
Los Angeles; and Tampa, Fla.
The rankings were based on survey responses from city
information-technology managers on a range of topics including adoption
of online service delivery, planning and governance, and the
infrastructure and architecture that help cities make the transformation
to digital government.
