Report: IT hiring in state to grow in 2005

Hiring activity in Texas' information technology field is expected to outpace the national average for the coming year, according to a recently released report.

The findings are from the IT Hiring Index and Skills Report, which was conducted by an independent research firm and developed by international IT staffing company Robert Half Technology.

The report said IT hiring activity in Texas in 2005 will exceed the U.S. average by two points, with 11 percent of chief information officers polled expecting increased hiring.

Nationally, chief information officers expect IT hiring to increase by 9 percent, an increase of three percentage points from the previous quarter's forecast.

The poll, which includes responses from more than 1,400 chief information officers from U.S. companies with 100 or more employees, found that the Pacific and the West South Central regions will likely have the strongest employment growth in 2005.

Networking remains the specialty most in demand throughout the country, according to the report. And executives at larger firms with 1,000 or more employees are the most optimistic about IT hiring activity for the coming year.

The report also said that the first quarter of 2005 is expected to be the fifth consecutive quarter in which executives have cited business expansion as the primary cause for IT hiring.
