SK-EarthLink venture launched
EarthLink Inc. and mobile communications company SK Telecom have created
a joint venture to market wireless voice and data services in the United
States.
The deal was first reported in January. The new entity, SK-EarthLink,
will be capitalized with $440 million of partner investments over the
next three years. Atlanta-based EarthLink and Seoul-based SK Telecomwill
each have a 50 percent ownership stake in the venture.
The companies said SK-EarthLink could generate about 3 million net
subscribers and $2 billion in revenue by 2009.
Dorian upgrades Event Analyst
Atlanta-based Dorian Software Creations Inc. announced the release of
Event Analyst 4.0, the latest version of its event log filtering and
reporting tool.
The company says Event Analyst automates and simplifies tasks at every
step of the event log life cycle.
Verso completes JTA purchase
Atlanta-based Verso Technologies, Inc. a provider of packet-based
products, said it completed the acquisition of the I-Master intellectual
property and other business assets of Jacksonville Technology Associates
Inc.
Verso paid $50,000 in cash and issued 950,000 shares of Verso stock for
the acquired assets. The company said the acquisition of the JTA assets
gives Verso an IP-based pre-paid applications platform on which multiple
voice and next-generation services can be deployed to the carrier
market.
AOL enters area VoIP market
Atlanta is one of 40 markets nationwide where Internet service provider
America Online Inc. began offering online phone service in April.
AOL Internet Phone Service uses Voice over Internet Protocol, or VoIP,
technology for placing phone calls via the Internet or similar computer
networks instead of through traditional phone networks.
AOL offers an introductory price for its Internet phone service to new
subscribers to its broadband Internet access service. It has other rate
plans for existing Internet subscribers who want to add the VoIP phone
service. The service brings together voice, e-mail and instant messaging
and includes other common features such as call waiting, call forwarding
and caller ID.
In-Q-Tel chair leaving Equifax board
Lee A. Ault III plans to retire from the Equifax Inc. board of directors
on May 17.
According to a filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission, his
term was originally set to expire in 2007.
Ault is chairman of Arlington, Va.-based In-Q-Tel Inc., according to
Equifax's Web site. In-Q-Tel is a private, independent, enterprise
funded by the CIA that invests in companies that develop information
technologies to serve U.S. national security interests.
Ault has served as a board member of Atlanta-based Equifax (NYSE: EFX)
since 1991 and also is a member of the company's Finance Committee.
SwiftCD to work with Softwrap
Atlanta-based SwiftCD said Softwrap, a provider of digital rights
management, will be offering software a new logistics service powered by
SwiftCD's on-demand manufacturing and fulfillment service.
With the new delivery service, a purchaser will be able to order a
backup copy of the software they purchase on a CD-ROM. Software
companies can then include other trials or demos on the disk.
EMS mulls future of SatNet unit
Atlanta-based EMS Technologies Inc. will investigate options for its
Satellite Networks business.
EMS said its options could include joint ventures with industrial or
capital partners, or other arrangements to maximize value to its
shareholders.
EMS SatNet makes high-speed broadband hubs and terminals for the
satellite communications market.
EMS designs and makes wireless, satellite and defense technology.
Mooney new Worldspan CFO
Atlanta-based Worldspan LP hired Kevin W. Mooney as its new chief
financial officer.
He replaces Michael Wood, who joined Worldspan in February 2004 and left
the company in November. Mooney will start with Worldspan on March 21.
Mooney is the former CEO, CFO and chief operating officer of Cincinnati
Bell.
Worldspan provides transaction processing and information technology
services to the global travel industry.
