IBM product aimed at online game developers
Armonk-based IBM announced technology solutions designed to help online
game developers and game publishers create, manage and distribute game
content faster, easier, and at lower costs.
The new IBM Starter Solutions for games are designed to allow game
developers and game publishers to create a stable and secure game for
their players, have secure gamer registration and authorization, and
allow for easy integration with traditional business applications.
Leading Minds 2005 planned for June
The Institute for International Research said David Neeleman, CEO of
JetBlue Airways has been added as a keynote speaker at Leading Minds
2005, to be held June 13-14 in New York.
The event is a forum on strategic leadership where participants discuss
strategic leadership and corporate growth.
AOL enters area VoIP market
New York is one of 40 markets nationwide where Internet service provider
America Online Inc. began offering online phone service in April.
AOL Internet Phone Service uses Voice over Internet Protocol, or VoIP,
technology for placing phone calls via the Internet or similar computer
networks instead of through traditional phone networks.
AOL offers an introductory price for its Internet phone service to new
subscribers to its broadband Internet access service. It has other rate
plans for existing Internet subscribers who want to add the VoIP phone
service. The service brings together voice, e-mail and instant messaging
and includes other common features such as call waiting, call forwarding
and caller ID.
CBL expanding to Australia
Armonk-based CBL Data Recovery Technologies Inc. expanded its operations
to Sydney, Australia.
The Sydney facility is to include drop off reception, on-site counseling
and diagnosis of damaged data storage media. Customers delivering
affected drives to the site will receive a full report on the condition
of their media and an estimated recovery cost within 24 hours.
Lee new SEMPO chair
The Rockville Center-based Search Engine Marketing Professional
Organization elected Kevin Lee to be its new chair.
A founding board member of SEMPO in 2003, Lee is also executive chairman
of search marketing firm Did-it.com, and is the author of the search
marketing book Search Engine Secrets.
Symbio releases boot appliance
New Rochelle-based Symbio Technologies, which makes server-centric
diskless thin client computer systems, introduced the Symbiont Boot
Appliance. The product takes the place of boot servers for diskless thin
client workstations and networks.
Available to support from 10 to 200 seats per unit, the SBA is designed
to simplify deployment and administration of diskless thin client
solutions. By separating and then centralizing all diskless thin client
functionality and administration into a small appliance, businesses, the
company said education and government users of the new SBA can save on
hardware and desktop administration.
Oddcast among WebAward sponsors
New York-based Oddcast, which develops and distributes conversational
character software products, will be a 2005 sponsor of the Web Marketing
Association's ninth annual WebAward Competition.
The WebAward Competition recognizes the individual and team achievement
of web professionals who create and maintain outstanding corporate web
sites. The deadline for entry in the 2005 WebAwards is June 1, 2005.
NeuLion to work with 1-800-flowers
Plainview-based software company NeuLion Inc., the firm formed by former
Computer Associates executive Nancy Li, said online and telephone
retailer 1-800-Flowers.com will be using NeuLion's software platform for
on-demand computing.
The companies did not release financial details of the transaction, but
a spokesman said prices range from $45,000 to $250,000.
