Comcast, D&D Interactive team up

Comcast SportsNet and D&D Interactive recently completed a content management system for Comcast SportNet.com in their Philadelphia, Chicago and Mid-Atlantic markets. This system allows their reporters and Web staff to instantly update content from any location in the world, using only a Web browser.

This system, developed by D&D Interactive, allows CSN's staff to manage stories, streaming media, photographs and banner advertising.

AOL enters area VoIP market

Philadelphia is one of 40 markets nationwide where Internet service provider America Online Inc. began offering online phone service in April.

AOL Internet Phone Service uses Voice over Internet Protocol, or VoIP, technology for placing phone calls via the Internet or similar computer networks instead of through traditional phone networks.

AOL offers an introductory price for its Internet phone service to new subscribers to its broadband Internet access service. It has other rate plans for existing Internet subscribers who want to add the VoIP phone service. The service brings together voice, e-mail and instant messaging and includes other common features such as call waiting, call forwarding and caller ID.

1&1 adopts PayPal option

Philadelphia-based Web hosting company 1&1 Internet Inc said its eShop Web Hosting packages will now offer PayPal as a preferred payment method.

According to 1&1, the Web Host will designate PayPal as the default payment mode in each of its eShop products, giving it top billing in the eShop's drop-down menus for payment methods. In addition, PayPal will implement an email campaign to select merchants offering nine months of free Web Hosting from 1&1.

Datacore revamps Web site

Exton-based DataCore Technology Inc. launched a new Web site at www.data-core.com.

The new site was designed as a comprehensive resource on EDM that includes case stories, white papers, ROI information, and more.

Datacore is a consulting firm specializing in implementing electronic data management solutions for organizations in the energy, government, manufacturing, and pharmaceutical industries.

Zone4Play buys gaming company

Wilmington, Del.-based Zone4Play Inc., which provides multi-platform gaming products, acquired the minority interest in SMS-TV gaming company MixTV.

The agreement provides Zone4Play with sole ownership of the MixTV's patented broadcast TV technology, including all of its intellectual property rights. The acquisition extends Zone4Play's operations from the iTV, IPTV, mobile, and hospitality markets, to now include also the broadcasting market.

LinuxForce to buy Cyber Loft

Philadelphia-based LinuxForce, which provides Debian GNU/Linux outsourced systems administration services, signed an asset purchase agreement to substantially acquire the assets of Cyber Loft, Inc, a Web hosting and Web application development provider formerly based in Irvine, Calif.

As part of the deal, LinuxForce acquired the service contracts of former Cyber Loft clients including the University of the Arts.

AdvancedTale buys Spark Network

Wayne-based AdvancedTele.com purchased Spark Network Services, a provider of interactive, non-traditional revenue sources to media affiliates, in an all-cash transaction. Spark is a division of Infinity Broadcasting. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

AdvancedTele.com has been active in the newspaper voice personals business for over a decade.

By purchasing Spark Network Services, it obtains over 400 voice personals accounts in the radio industry. It will operate Spark's call center in suburban Chicago and its automated telemarketing IVR system. Moreover, by acquiring Spark Network Services, AdvancedTele.com has also obtained one of only three direct service bureau accounts in the nation for MCI 900 number services.

Schimel new Comcast senior VP

Philadelphia-based broadband provider Comcast announced the appointment of Elizabeth Schimel as senior vice president of content development for its Online division.

Previously, Schimel served as vice president of consumer business development at AT Wireless Services.
