Unotron introduces smartcard
readers
Westwood-based released its SmartRest SRC5 Smartcard
Reader and the external SAC2 Standalone Smartcard Reader. SmartRest, a
keyboard wrist rest with an integrated, horizontal, front-load Smartcard
reader, was designed as a companion product to Unotron's SpillSeal
protected washable keyboard.
The new Smartcard Reader products
are expected to help federal agencies comply with the Federal
Information Processing Standard personal identity verification
requirements.

Study: Wireless quality is improving
The
nation's wireless carriers are dropping fewer calls than in the past, a
study has found.
Despite an increase in wireless calling volume,
the average number of initial connection problems has dropped 50 percent
compared with 2004, according to the J.D. Power and Associates Wireless
Call Quality Performance Study.
The study, which measures wireless
call problems nationwide, found three of every 100 calls includes at
least one call quality problem with the initial connection -- down from
six out of 100 in 2004.
In the Mid-Atlantic region, Verizon
Wireless ranked highest, with the fewest reported problems in initial
connections and calls disconnected, followed by Sprint, Cingular,
T-Mobile and Nextel Communications.
Metrologic formalizes pact
with Target
Blackwood-based Metrologic Instruments Inc. said
it formalized an agreement with Target Corporation to provide MS1690
Focus handheld imaging bar code scanners for their retail stores.
Metrologic expects shipment of scanners to Target to begin
immediately.
StudioLine upgrades Photo 2
Upper
Saddle River-based H&M Systems Software Inc. released version 2.11 of
its StudioLine Photo 2 digital imaging software.
The new version
offers the universal StudioLine Explorer for images, folders and online
albums offers a convenient toolbar slider to freely choose thumbnail
sizes. This capability allows similar images to be assessed and
distinguished before loading.
New toolbar buttons in the image
archive allow users to quickly rate images, add them to a light box or
designate them for later use in email, online albums, printing or CD/DVD
writing.
iVoice completes spin-offs
Matawan-based
speech-recognition technology company iVoice said it has completed the
spinoffs of three subsidiaries and will give its stockholders shares in
the new companies as a special dividend.
The new companies (iVoice
Technology, Deep Field Technologies, and SpeechSwitch) each will operate
as an independent publicly held company.
iVoice makes
speech-enabled software and hardware and telecommunications systems for
uses such as company voice mail systems. Its customers include Avaya and
the American Red Cross.
Majesco releases PC version of 'Advent
Rising'
Edison-based Majesco Entertainment Company said it
shipped the PC version of "Advent Rising" to retail stores nationwide.
Developed by GlyphX Games, Advent Rising thrusts players into an
intergalactic adventure punctuated with a storyline created in
collaboration with sci-fi novelist Orson Scott Card.
MDY teams
with Prinova
Fair lawn-based records management product maker
MDY Advanced Technologies Inc. signed a marketing services agreement
with Prinova Inc., a maker of document design, development and delivery
products.
Prinova will offer MDY's records management software.
The agreement makes it possible for Prinova to expand its offerings to
customers in the insurance, financial services, healthcare, retail and
other markets.
Biotech company moving to New
Jersey
Phyton Biotech will move its headquarters from Fort
Worth, Texas, to Princeton this fall and is hiring three more scientists
to manage its research and development operations.
Phyton
President Magnus Precht said the move and hires are aimed at expanding
beyond the company's current focus, which is producing paclitaxel, the
active ingredient in popular cancer drug Taxol.
