EarthLink to build Anaheim's Wi-fi
network
The City of Anaheim plans to grant Atlanta-based
EarthLink Inc. an exclusive franchise to build out the city's Wi-fi
broadband network.
EarthLink will build the 50-square-mile,
citywide Wi-fi mesh network in phases. In the first phase, EarthLink
will build a two-square-mile proof-of-concept area for testing and
analysis. The remainder of the city's network will be completed by the
fourth quarter of 2006, giving Anaheim the largest municipal Wi-fi
network in Southern California.
The network in Anaheim will
provide inexpensive, high-speed Internet access for residents and
visitors. It will also enable municipal employees to be more efficient
in their jobs by allowing them to complete their work in the field
without having to return to an office and a traditional landline to
complete their tasks.
