Interland buys Web.com

Atlanta-based Interland Inc. will buy some assets of Web Internet LLC (Web.com), including the Web.com domain name, for $4.4 million.

The deal also will likely include an accredited registrar and about 9,000 web hosting accounts, which could add roughly $900,000 in annual hosting revenue. Interland, a Web hosting and online services provider, expects the deal to close before the end of the year.

Web.com CEO Will Pemble will join Interland as an executive vice president and will focus on building Web.com's consumer and registrar business.

IT worker confidence rises slightly in November

Confidence in the employment market among IT workers rose marginally in November, as the sector's Hudson Employment Index inched up 2.2 points to 101.1. Renewed confidence in personal finances and heightened job satisfaction contributed to the slight increase. Technology workers were about as optimistic as workers overall; the composite Index held steady in November, slipping just .04 points to 100.1.

Nearly half (48 percent) of the workers in the IT sector reported that their financial situations were improving in November, up from 38 percent the previous month. There was a six-percentage point drop to 35 percent in the number reporting that their finances were getting worse. Job satisfaction rose five points to 76 percent in November.

However, the IT workforce was significantly more likely to expect layoffs in November, as that figure increased from 22 percent to 27 percent. The number of workers concerned about job security rose five points to 32 percent.

S1 company sold to InterVoice

Dallas-based InterVoice Inc. will buy Atlanta-based S1 Corp. subsidiary Edify Corp. for $33.5 million, the companies reported.

InterVoice said the deal will strengthen its position in the voice automation market and help it accelerate the development and delivery of multi-channel, automated information technology for enterprise and network customers.

S1 provides software to banks, credit unions, investment firms and insurance companies.

Technology group elects Seagull exec

The Technology Association of Georgia (TAG) has added Seagull Software President and CEO Don Addington to its board of directors.

Seagull Software is a Dutch company that produces software that transforms legacy applications into service-oriented architecture-compliant Web services. It has American headquarters in Atlanta.

TAG partners with the Georgia Chamber of Commerce, Georgia Research Alliance, AeA and the Georgia Department of Economic Development to promote knowledge exchange and collaboration.

Internap CEO steps down

Atlanta-based Internap Network Services Corp. CEO Gregory A. Peters recently resigned.

The company's new chief operating officer James P. DeBlasio was promoted to CEO to replace Peters. DeBlasio was named COO in October. Prior to joining Internap, he was a financial vice president at Lucent Technologies.

The company also elected Patricia L. Higgins, a current member of the board of directors, vice chair of the board.

Internap provides routing services for IP networks.

Survey: state's small business owners optimistic

Business conditions in Georgia rank among the nation's best, but optimism from small-business owners faded this quarter, according to the Georgia Small-Business Conditions report published by the National Federation of Independent Business/Georgia.

A net 46 percent (positive percent minus negative percent) of respondents in Georgia said business conditions are "good," lower than September's net 52 percent. A net 14 percent of respondents said business conditions are "improving," down from a net 25 percent in September. A net 44 percent said sales are "good," down from a net 52 percent in September. And a net 28 percent said profits are "good," down from a net 35 percent last quarter.

In addition, 72 percent of respondents are "satisfied" with the direction Georgia is headed, while 22 percent said they are "dissatisfied."
