Bentley honored by tech council

Exton-based Bentley Systems Inc. was named Technology Company of the Year during the Eastern Technology Council's 13th Annual Enterprise Awards ceremony in November.

Bentley provides software for the lifecycle of the world's infrastructure. The company's portfolio for the building, plant, civil, and geospatial vertical markets spans architecture, engineering, construction (AEC) and operations.

Wachovia announces school loan Web site

Wachovia's student lending division, Wachovia Education Finance, has launched an improved Web site.

The site is www.wachovia.com/education. The new Web address will be Wachovia Education Finance's homepage, while the division's old Web address at educaid.com will be a redirect to the new site.

Both student and parent visitors to the new site can apply for an education loan and sign it electronically online, participate in online counseling seminars, calculate repayment costs, or access existing account information.

Wachovia officials said in addition to simplifying the navigation, the new site features valuable new content such as "Just for You" sections designed with specific information for students, parents, and school officials. And for those students and parents who are new to the student loan process, the new site offers a "Five Steps to Financial Aid" tool that quickly explains all of the necessary steps.

IT worker confidence up in November

Confidence in the employment market among IT workers rose marginally in November, as the sector's Hudson Employment Index inched up 2.2 points to 101.1. Renewed confidence in personal finances and heightened job satisfaction contributed to the slight increase. Technology workers were about as optimistic as workers overall; the composite Index held steady in November, slipping just .04 points to 100.1.

Nearly half (48 percent) of the workers in the IT sector reported that their financial situations were improving in November, up from 38 percent the previous month. There was a six-percentage point drop to 35 percent in the number reporting that their finances were getting worse. Job satisfaction rose five points to 76 percent in November.

However, the IT workforce was significantly more likely to expect layoffs in November, as that figure increased from 22 percent to 27 percent. The number of workers concerned about job security rose five points to 32 percent.
