netWorks
Re-writing the gaming rules.
Posted by : Nadine Cruit

Atlanta-based netWorks is out to redefine what a gaming center can be. The company, which was founded in January 2004, not only offers the latest in technology for area gamers, but also for businesses looking for a top spot for meetings and other events. Chris Anglin and Stephen Williams are the company principals, and Anglin talked about what makes netWorks stand out.

What does netWorks do?

We feel netWorks is the premier destination for technology entertainment and services. We offer state-of-the-art computers for LAN or online gaming. We also offer business services that include copying, printing, faxing, facility rental and software services.

Our gaming services provide a place for gamers to gather in a social environment for friendly competition and interaction with others sharing in gaming fun. This is further facilitated through tournaments, LAN parties and sponsored events.

Our business services offer small business access to ever-changing equipment without the large capital investment. Our high-tech meeting room allows businesses to conduct meetings, training, and seminars for a more reasonable cost of normal meeting facilities.

What makes netWorks unique among gaming centers?

A number of things. There's our location, being in the mall; our size, to promote socialization and allow for additional services; the company concept, which is to be more engaging with parents and casual gamers--in other words, non-threatening; our business services, offering services and meeting facilities, and the team-building that's possible when using today's technology; and our mission, which is all about building a community.

We offer a new entertainment option for the entire family to enjoy. Now parents can interact with their kids in an environment that's exciting and entertaining. netWorks has taken the LAN Center to another level by focusing on the social interaction of gaming. We offer state-of-the-art technology and the latest gaming titles. We welcome all levels of gamers and frequently reclaim some gamers that haven't played since the "Duke Nukem" era. We have built a facility that promotes the social aspect of technology and promotes interaction with others through online multi-player gaming.

On any given day, you might find a group of LAN gamers, students working on a school project, or small-business owners getting tips on how to use computer software to market their business more effectively.

Our business services cater to companies that don't have the technology budget to invest in complex technology and software. We offer faxing, copying, scanning, Internet access, desktop publishing, hardware solutions, and a large meeting room.

We incorporate gaming into our team-building services. Since many of the multiplayer games have team-oriented concepts we have been developing with our team-building consultants a program that will help teams understand their strengths and weaknesses, and also look to ways to improve themselves for a more productive work environment.

What does netWorks have planned for the future?

From a gaming perspective, we have monthly PC and console tournaments, new game showcases, all night LAN parties (lock-ins), and expanding on branded tournament style, netWorks Gameathelon.

We also will be rolling out our netWorks How-To series, where people can get information on how to best utilize technology at home and in the workplace.
