Career Academy
Blended learning from the comfort of your desk.
Posted by : Nadine Cruit

With busy schedules, and far too much to do, IT professionals are forever trying to shoehorn training onto their "to do" lists. A new partnership has been struck that can help: Career Academy, a provider of technology-based training, will now be working with New Horizons, a training firm with a bevy of locations, including Atlanta and Marietta. Career Academy CEO Samson Chu chats about training, emerging technology, and a classroom that's anywhere you want it to be.

How did Career Academy get started?

Career Academy was started in 1998, at the time that employers and IT professionals were realizing the importance of training. As the popularity of training increased, so did the costs associated with attending. Not only were tuitions rising, but students had to adhere to strict schedules and often travel great distances to attend. It was at this point that we saw an opportunity to put technology to work in order to provide students with a more cost-effective convenient solution for obtaining expertise in the various computer related disciplines.

What got you personally interested in doing this work?

Working in the IT industry for more than 10 years required that I attend countless hours in training classes, often in other cities. I decided that there had to be a better way to keep up with the constant demand to stay current in my field. With the advent of digital media I could see that there was a perfect marriage about to be made. This is what led to my concept of the digital classroom.

Why do you feel there's a need for what you provide?

The IT industry continues to grow exponentially with no slow down in sight. Therefore, there will always be a need for comprehensive quality training on the latest emerging technologies. Education is one of the most elementary needs known to mankind, both in the past and definitely going forward into the information revolution we are currently experiencing.

With so many training options available, what makes you unique?

Probably the most unique feature of our training solutions, that sets us apart from the crowd, is our modular approach to training, which we have developed and refined over the years. We've set a new standard by blending the best available components such as Instructor-led full motion audio video course presentations, hands-on simulation lab exercises, realistic practice questions, comprehensive study guides, homework assignments, and one-on-one live instructor access to answer any training questions.

What kind of relationship do you have with New Horizons, and why do you think it's important to work with them?

New Horizons is the industry leader in classroom-based technology training. They have now established a unique "On-Demand Learning Classroom" in many of their training centers, which allows their students to learn the latest IT technologies at their convenience. By utilizing state of the art equipment and individual study stations under the eye of expert instructors in a classroom environment, students are provided with a complete training solution. Career Academy's suite of streaming videos, hands-on lab simulations and test preparation software, in combination with New Horizon's highly trained instructors guide the students through the training process with supplemental classroom lectures and one-on-one mentoring. It creates a solution that accelerates the learning process and provides for superior understanding and knowledge retention.
