The first question asked on Tacoma-based Capstone Career
College's Web site is "Hate your
job?" Clearly, Capstone caters to ambitious folks from all backgrounds
who want to lay the groundwork for a better career. Capstone's LeeAnn
Hagen talked about the school's offerings.
How and why did
Capstone get started?
The owners of Capstone have, through other
venues, been involved in teaching and preparing people for careers over
many years. With Capstone, we were able to take that experience and use
it to meet the needs of today's adult learners.
Our ultimate goal
was to take people who were unable to complete career training because
of busy schedules and work responsibilities and offer them a solution
that would mesh life with school. With Capstone, we were able to make
that happen.
We also took a hard look at the employment needs in
our area and projections for the future. We found that any healthcare
support positions such as medical office administrator, medical coding
and billing specialists were in high demand.
With this in mind,
we offer a medical office administration program that includes not only
office skills at an advanced level but also computerized medical coding,
medical billing and health insurance processing.
Also, we found
that needs in the computer industry were on the rise again. IT is an
industry that is ever challenging and changing. We offer the training to
meet the requirements for the A+, Network+, Security+ and the MCSA
certifications.
These open doors for computer help desk and
network administrator positions, both areas that are reported to be in
high demand and are experiencing growth. We will also offer training for
higher end certifications.
Why do you feel there's a need
for what you provide?
We are able to provide adult learners with
flexible classroom schedules, the ability to work from home or office
via online curriculum, one-on-one attention from industry professionals,
hands-on experience and the option to learn in the way they best retain
new information.
Adults today have a lot on their plate; work
pressures and family obligations sometimes make any additional
commitments almost impossible. Schedules that provide daily flexibility
and our unique way of teaching lets our students work around their lives
without sacrificing what's important.
Many adults feel stuck in
jobs that are less than satisfying and want a way to move up or out.
With Capstone Career College, we are able to meet that need.
What makes Capstone unique?
Our method of training
and our focus on adults makes us unique. We are not trying to make adult
lives work around high school style training. We have training that
works around adult lives. To do that, we expect a high level of maturity
from our students.
What kind of challenges does Capstone
face?
As with any new college, our greatest challenge is to let
people know about what we offer and our commitment to our students'
success. We are involved with our community, government organizations,
and businesses that will hire our graduates. We want people in our
community to know more about us and our advantages.
Where
do you want to build the school from here?
Our main goal for the
school is to produce qualified graduates and watch them enter the
industry of their choice. We will continue to grow in both the type and
number of programs we offer and in the services we provide our students.
Ultimately, we will open branches in Kitsap and Thurston counties.
