Priceflo shopping site debuts
Los Angeles-based Priceflo.com, a new comparison-shopping site, is promising to make it affordable for PC and consumer electronics retailers and e-tailers to advertise all products in their inventory to online shoppers, not just those with high profit margins. Priceflo is offering its merchants a flat monthly fee, regardless of how many products they want to list, instead of charging a cost-per-click rate for every product checked out by a customer. Priceflo.com contains PC hardware, software, peripherals, cameras, home entertainment systems, and video games. Currently, Priceflo features products from, among others, Wal-Mart, Buy.com, Target, Computers4SURE, Overstock.com, Tech Depot, Office Depot, Dell and J&R Music & Computer World.
Turning Point completes Excellon buy
Turning Point Capital LLC of Lake Oswego, Ore., said it completed its purchase of Torrance-based Excellon Automation Co., a manufacturer of drill equipment for the printed circuit board industry. The purchase from Bellevue, Wash.-based Esterline Technologies, for an undisclosed sum, was agreed upon in July. Since that time, Excellon has been operating under the ownership of Turning Point, although terms were not finalized until Nov. 18. Excellon's revenue has fallen steadily from $100 million a few years ago to $15 million, and it employs 55.
Katz new NovaStor VP
Simi Valley-based NovaStor Corp., a maker of backup and disaster recovery products, named David J. Katz II to the newly created position of vice president of customer relations. Katz has over 16 years of hands-on experience working with and providing technical support for Novell LAN.
Siemens to buy IndX Software
Electronics giants Siemens AG announced plans to acquire Aliso Viejo-based IndX Software Corp. in order to expand its range of IT solutions for industrial management, especially in the oil and gas sector. IndX, which employs approximately 50 people, will remain in Aliso Viejo, however, it will change its named to IndX Software Corp. and will be consolidated as part of Siemens Energy & Automation of Alpharetta, Ga. The financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. Privately held IndX creates software solutions for manufacturers, including large oil companies.
Platt College moves to Alhambra
Platt College will relocate its Los Angeles campus to the signature 45-acre, one million square foot urban community in the city of Alhambra. The 11.5-year lease is for 18,333 square feet and has a value of $5.6 million. Platt's decision to relocate to The Alhambra is consistent with the project's attraction as a center for both educational and health care institutions in the San Gabriel Valley. Platt College is a private, two-year college that offers courses in areas including graphic art, information technology, and paralegal training.
Magic closes Netherlands deal
Irvine-based Magic Software Enterprises, a provider of business integration and development technology, announced the signing of an iBOLT business process development and integration project with B&C International in The Netherlands. B&C makes window fashion products in both made-to-measure and standard sizes. iBOLT will be used to streamline the process of ordering and payment for materials purchased to fulfill product orders.
eRacks expands Quiet line
Building on its eRacks/Quiet rackmount server line, Laguna Beach-based eRacks Open Source Systems unveiled its Silence tower and Quiet Gbox, a modified version of the cube desktop Gbox. The eRacks/Quiet, Silence, and Quiet Gbox are all measured to run within 5 decibels above the baseline quiet room measurement of 28-30dB.
