SYS gains government contract
San
Diego-based technology contractor SYS Technologies was awarded a $1.1
million subcontract by Science Applications International Corp. (SAIC).
SYS will provide systems engineering services to SAIC in support
of SPAWAR's (Space and Naval Warfare Systems Command) FORCEnet
Integrated Architecture program. The program will incorporate common
engineering, information protocols, computing, and interface standards
across computer environments and platforms.
The open architecture
will provide technical performance, architecture, and design guidance
for the computer programs and computing infrastructure of future Naval
Warfare Systems.
TimeSpring releases CDP software
Newport Beach-based TimeSpring Software Corp. said it
released TimeData for Microsoft SQL Server 2005. TimeSpring's TimeData
continuous data protection (CDP) software eliminates the data protection
gap of traditional backup systems and allows SQL Server users to recover
from data loss, corruption or other issues within minutes. TimeData also
helps users migrate real-time production data from SQL Server 2000 to
SQL Server 2005 without shutting down, slowing down or exporting data.
TimeSpring's TimeData is currently the only file-based application
intelligent CDP solution for the Windows platform.
IT
worker confidence up in November
Confidence in the employment
market among IT workers rose marginally in November, as the sector's
Hudson Employment Index inched up 2.2 points to 101.1. Renewed
confidence in personal finances and heightened job satisfaction
contributed to the slight increase. Technology workers were about as
optimistic as workers overall; the composite Index held steady in
November, slipping just .04 points to 100.1.
Nearly half (48
percent) of the workers in the IT sector reported that their financial
situations were improving in November, up from 38 percent the previous
month. There was a six-percentage point drop to 35 percent in the number
reporting that their finances were getting worse. Job satisfaction rose
five points to 76 percent in November.
Commerce5 sold to
Minnesota company
Minnesota E-commerce company Digital River
Inc. will acquire Aliso Viejo-based Commerce5 Inc. in a deal worth $45
million.
Commerce5 is a private e-commerce software
maker.
Eden Prairie, Minn.-based Digital River will acquire about
40 Commerce5 client contracts, including Gateway, Inc., Lexmark
International Inc., Sharp Electronics Corp. and Sony Electronics
Inc.
Digital River will pay $32.4 million for the company, and it
will assume $12.6 million in debt. In addition, Commerce5 executives
will receive 87,500 Digital River shares based upon meeting certain
performance goals.
Trio-Tech purchases Shanghai company
Van Nuys-based semiconductor testing company Trio-Tech
International will acquire all the outstanding shares of Globetronics
Shanghai Inc. for $525,000 in cash.
Trio-Tech bought the
Shanghai-based semiconductor testing and burn-in business from
Globetronics International Inc.
Founded in 1958, Trio-Tech
International provides third-party semiconductor testing and burn-in
services primarily through its laboratories in Southeast Asia. It also
designs, manufactures and markets equipment and systems used in the
testing and production of semiconductors.
Burbank police
get tech aid
CompuDyne Corp. will provide software and
services for the Burbank police department under a $1.5 million contract
with the city.
Annapolis, Md.-based security technology company
CompuDyne will provide the department with new computer-aided dispatch,
records management and field reporting systems. The Burbank Police
Department has been a CompuDyne client since 1985 and wanted to update
its systems.
The records management portion of Burbank's new
system will streamline and automate records processing and criminal
investigations. And 30 police cruisers will get tools allowing officers
to access their accident and case reports and write new ones while
they're out in the field.
