Test publishers plan conference
The Association of Test Publishers (ATP) will host its fifth annual conference, Technology in Testing: Advancements and Best Practices, February 1-4 at the Renaissance Esmeralda Resort in Palm Springs. The conference will provide educational tracks for all areas of testing: Clinical, Educational, Certification/Licensure and Industrial/Organizational. Key focus areas will be test design, development, delivery, administration and computer based testing.
The opening keynote speaker will be Ralph Alvarez, COO of McDonalds USA who will cover the use of tests to qualify employment, verify job knowledge and assess job readiness.
ADS Tech updates analog/DV converter
Cerritos-based ADS Tech said PYRO A/V Link, its 1394/Firewire-based universal digital video (DV) format converter, is now being bundled with the full versions of Premiere Pro, Adobe Encore DVD, and Adobe Audition. PYRO A/V Link Professional is an external box that connects to a computer via firewire. With Composite, S-VHS and Component connectors, the PYRO A/V Link Professional allows users to capture video from any source.
SMC releases wireless CardBus adapter
Irvine-based SMC Networks, a mker of networking products, released its newest wireless Enterprise connectivity product, the EliteConnect Universal High Power Wireless CardBus Adapter. The new adapter conforms to the 802.11a, 802.11b, and 802.11g standards to provide Universal a/b/g connectivity, and carries an MSRP of $89.99.
Fourth World ships WebMerge 2.3
Los Angeles-based Fourth World released 4W WebMerge 2.3, an upgrade to its popular tool for Mac OS and Windows that generates static Web pages from database or spreadsheet data. The new version provides a convenient TagMaker utility for point-and-click tag writing, search-and-replace options in field tags, preset delimiters for parsing affiliate program data feeds, a debugger tool, and other new features.
Symmetricom closes Irvine plant
San Jose-based Symmetricom Inc., which makes synchronization and timing products for the telecommunications industry, says it shut down its Irvine manufacturing site. The closing, announced in May 2003, completes the integration of Symmetricom's Technology Research Center into a single facility located in Beverly, Mass., the company says. The Irvine site employed approximately 150 people in two separate buildings. As part of the consolidation, operations for the company's rubidium-based atomic frequency standards have been moved to Symmetricom's Technology Realization Center in Beverly.
Northrop hires BAE Systems exec
Northrop Grumman Corp. has hired Patricia McMahon as its new vice president and team leader for the electronic warfare programs within its Airborne Early Warning and Electronic Warfare Systems business units, a part of the company's El Segundo-based Integrated Systems unit. McMahon will be responsible for all business activities related to electronic warfare and electronic attack, including upgrades and modifications to the Navy's EA-6B and EA-18G electronic attack aircraft.
3D Systems hires CFO, general counsel
Imaging equipment manufacturer 3D Systems Corp. of Valencia named Fred Jones as its new vice president and chief financial officer. 3D also announced it hired Robert Grace Jr. as vice president, general counsel and secretary. Jones previously served as CFO of his own consulting firm as well as Thomas & Betts Corp. and Joy Technologies Inc. He also previously held finance positions with The Penn Central Corp. and The First National Bank of Chicago. Grace formerly worked at Sealed Air Corp. for more than 22 years. At Sealed Air, he was general counsel and secretary. Most recently, Grace was special counsel in charge of all legal aspects of mergers and acquisitions and financing activities.
