Survey: CIOs see security as job one
Technology executives now see enhancing network security as job one, a
new survey shows.
Thirty-five percent of chief information officers (CIOs) polled by Menlo
Park, Calif.-based Robert Half Technology said improvements to network
security are their highest priority. Operating-system upgrades were the
second-most frequent response, cited by 16 percent of executives.
The national poll includes responses from more than 1,400 CIOs from a
stratified random sample of U.S. companies with 100 or more employees.
Among Los Angeles-area executives, network security was cited as the
highest priority by 29 percent, followed by database upgrades (19
percent) and OS upgrades (17 percent).
Kostello new Kintera senior VP
San Diego-based Kintera Inc., which makes software for the nonprofit and
government sectors, named Greg Kostello senior vice president of product
management.
Kostello was previously executive vice president of technology at
MP3.com. He was named president of Vivendi-Universal Net Technologies
following the sale of MP3.com to Vivendi-Universal in 2001.
EDIdev upgrades Framework EDI
Burbank-based software maker EDIdev LLC announced the latest release of
its flagship software Framework EDI (FREDI) version 5.0.
FREDI 5.0 is an EDI development software tool that has a component with
built-in functions for translating, constructing, validating and
transmitting EDI files, which programmers can call from within their
program. This allows programmers to control how and when EDI processes
should occur in their EDI solution, thus enabling them to rapidly create
a robust, tailored system that best fits their business.
Data Storage teams with CBL
The San Diego-based Data Storage Institute and CBL Data Recovery
Technologies Inc. will collaborate on projects leading to solutions for
issues affecting new data storage media.
The goal of the project is to develop the world's first
drive-independent hardware tool that will enable CBL to recover close to
100 percent of lost customer data in scenarios where a magnetic signal
is present and the data is still resident on the damaged drive.
Johnson new Alphalogix VP
Huntington-based Alphalogix, Inc. recently hired Anthony Johnson as vice
president of Professional Services.
Previously Johnson managed ASP, an IBM Service Provider, focused on
outsourcing and managed services for IBM servers in North America.
Tech companies anticipate ownership changes
As competition continues to increase and companies battle to win new
customers, executives of technology companies are not ruling out a
possible change of ownership in the next decade, reports a survey
conducted by Chicago-based Grant Thornton LLP, the accounting, tax and
business advisory firm.
According to the Grant Thornton Survey of U.S. Business Leaders, 42
percent of technology respondents expect a change in company ownership
in the next 10 years, while only 30 percent of all companies nationally
feel the same. Among those who expect this change, 39 percent believe a
merger is most likely, while 30 percent anticipate a trade sale.
Additional findings from the survey include:
-- Three-quarters (73 percent) report they are optimistic about the
economy's growth in the next six months.
-- Almost all (95 percent) say they are optimistic about the growth of
their own business.
-- Nearly two-thirds (65 percent) of respondents also plan to increase
their headcount over the next six months; and
-- Eighty-nine percent are on pace to meet or exceed their sales targets
(22 percent exceed and 67 percent on target).
Steinfeld new SmartOrg CSA
Menlo Park-based SmartOrg Inc. announced the promotion of Grant
Steinfeld to chief software architect.
Prior to joining SmartOrg, he was a co-founder and chief architect of
AgentIdea Consulting, technical manager of the Jefferies-Helfant Group,
and vice president, Futures and Options Technology, for Prudential
Financial.
