InoStor bought by Norway company
Poway-based InoStor Corp. has been acquired by Oslo, Norway-based
Tandberg Data, which purchased the company from its minority
shareholders.
The company said the acquisition allows Tandberg to strengthen its
product distribution in North America and Latin America.
InoStor Corp. was established in 2002 when Tandberg Data Inc., the U.S.
distribution arm of Tandberg Data, merged with Land-5 Corp., a
disk-based development company.
SYS creates new division
San Diego-based SYS Technologies launched a new division to address the
growing SYS business base in public safety and security systems.
The company's new Public Safety and Security Division will address
homeland security and business security issues at the federal, state,
and local level. The scope of this effort involves the application of
existing SYS sensor technology, wireless sensor networking, the
application of service oriented internet architectures, information
visualization, and decision support technologies.
SYS provides real-time IT services to industrial and U.S. government
customers.
O'Connor joins NetSuite
San Mateo-based NetSuite Inc. hired Jay O'Connor as vice president of
Worldwide Marketing.
Most recently, O'Connor was vice president of Marketing and Product
Management at CaseCentral.
NetSuite provides on-demand business products for small and mid-sized
businesses.
NetSuite Inc. also announced the release of NetCRM-Services Edition. The
company said the new product offers features that cannot be found in any
other stand-alone, on-demand CRM application.
FileNet software rescues court system
Costa Mesa-based FileNet Corp. said its document-management software
helped the Miami-Dade County Clerk of Courts Office in Florida save more
than an about $23 million in operating costs.
Miami-Dade County's court system is the fourth-largest traffic court
system in the country. It has more than 1.5 million drivers and
processes more than 750,000 traffic cases each year. FileNet's system
provides an automated system for case management and enables a single
point of access for judges, attorneys and clerks to enter, get and
update case data.
Yummy Media signs with JulesWorld
San Diego-based Yummy Media Productions signed an agreement with Los
Angeles-based JulesWorld LLC for license rights to use the Otoy game
engine as a development platform for its flagship product Yummy Dappsú.
Otoy is an online game engine that leverages instant messaging.
Yummy Media creates rich media desktop alert engine communications for
companies and organizations.
CoreTech gains contracts
Irvine-based Magic Software Enterprises said its subsidiary, CoreTech
Consulting Group, won two new outsourced contracts with an unnamed
global life sciences company.
The contracts combined represent over $750,000, and are expected to be
renewed annually. Together, both contracts will service an end-user
client population of more than 20,000 throughout North America.
Magic Software is a provider of development and integration technology
and business products.
AOL enters L.A. VoIP market
Los Angeles is one of 40 markets nationwide where Internet service
provider America Online Inc. began offering online phone service in
April.
AOL Internet Phone Service uses Voice over Internet Protocol, or VoIP,
technology for placing phone calls via the Internet or similar computer
networks instead of through traditional phone networks.
Also in the initial market launch are other California cities, San
Francisco, San Jose and Oakland.
AOL offers an introductory price for its Internet phone service to new
subscribers to its broadband Internet access service. It has other rate
plans for existing Internet subscribers who want to add the VoIP phone
service. The service brings together voice, e-mail and instant messaging
and includes other common features such as call waiting, call forwarding
and caller ID.
