Rhinotek announces hires

Carson-based Rhinotek, a maker of computer-related consumables for home, business, education and government, filled three positions within its senior management team. Van Andrews was named president and CEO to direct company operations, strategies, profitability and expansion worldwide. He is the former president and CEO of U.S. Robotics. Steve Woo, former Tech Data Corporation vice president and general manager, was named executive vice president of sales; and Mark Voorhis was named chief financial officer.

MovieFlix.com subscriber list tops 10,000

Hollywood-based MovieFlix.com, a broadband movie provider, exceeded the 10,000 subscriber mark, making it the leading on-demand movie subscription service available. MovieFlix.com maintains a library of over 3,000 full-length movies, short films, independent films, television shows and more in over 30 categories.

Pulse moves product line

San Diego-based Pulse said operations for its Telecom Division's Excelsus product line have moved to Pulse's headquarters in San Diego. Excelsus is the brand name of Pulse's line of innovative products that deliver broadband Internet access and home networking over conventional telephone lines. The Excelsus business was acquired by Pulse in August 2001. It is part of the telecom division of Pulse. The move unites all California offices for the company's telecom division.

PhatWare releases PhatNotes Smartphone Edition

Los Altos-based PhatWare Corp., a maker of software products and professional services for mobile and desktop computers, released PhatNotes Smartphone Edition, a notes organizer application designed for Microsoft Windows Mobile-based Smartphones.

PhatNotes Smartphone Edition allows people to easily create, search, and sort text-based notes on both their Smartphones and Windows-based desktop PCs.

Acme releases Hercules line

Azusa-based Acme Portable Machines Inc., a leading maker of portable computers, introduced its Hercules Series, a mass storage, fully loaded line of portable servers/workstations with user choice of ATX motherboards. The Hercules HTII-767 houses up to a 17-inch flat-panel TFT LCD screen and 150GB of storage via five 5.25-inch and one 3.5-inch open bay drives loaded from the side for a mobile server. The TFT LCD screen provides a full range of colors and has 50,000 hours of backlight life.

Telpro buys interest in B2 Networks

Beverly Hills-based Telecommunications Products Inc., which does business as Telpro, agreed to acquire a 20 percent interest in B2 Networks LLC, a provider of broadband video networks, in a cash and stock deal. Telpro provides pay-per-view television and video-on-demand services to hotels. The total purchase price for Telpro's stake in B2 Networks was not disclosed. Telpro said it purchased the stake in exchange for cash and Telpro stock. The purchase agreement also includes an option for Telpro to increase its stake in B2 Networks to up to 49 percent of the outstanding B2 Network shares. Together, B2 Networks and Telpro will market and deliver digital entertainment and broadband under the name Hotellinktv.com. According to Telpro, B2 Networks will provide it with data center facilities and a customized digital content encryption and delivery system. In addition, Telpro will gain access to B2's distribution rights for movies and sporting event broadcasts, among other things.

Konexx releases USB Phone 2 PC

San Diego-based Konexx introduced USB Phone 2 PC, a PC-based phone recorder that obtains its power from the computer's USB port and doesn't require an AC adapter or any other power source. USB Phone 2 PC recordings are in a compressed wave format that is playable by virtually all computer media player programs. One hour of recording uses 5.6MB of disk space.
