iRiver, H20 release MP3 accessory
San Diego-based iRiver and Milpitas-based H2O Audio announced the launch
of the H2O Audio SV i700, the first fully waterproof MP3 player
accessory.
The H2O Audio SV i700 is designed specifically for the award-winning
iRiver iFP-700 series flash-memory music players, which have no moving
parts, making them 100 percent skip free.
Cari.net buys data center
San Diego-based Cari.net, a business Internet provider, acquired the
data center and colocation facility formerly owned and operated by
Hosting.com.
The acquisition adds 20,000 square feet of colocation space to
Cari.net's two existing colocation facilities.
Cari.net will use the $20 million dollar data center to launch a new
line of premium business class Internet services marketed under the
brand Complex Drive.
Secure Science teams with Atempo
Secure Science Corporation, a developer of advanced technology for
protecting information assets, and Atempo Inc., a provider of
information lifecycle strategies for data protection, announced a
strategic alliance.
The companies will collaborate on ways to enhance the security features
of Atempo's data lifecycle management suite of products, featuring the
data recovery product, Time Navigator.
Winer new Chassis Plans CFO
San Diego-based Chassis Plans said Kathleen Winer joined the company as
chief financial officer.
Winer will assume responsibility for finance and accounting functions,
enhanced ERP implementation, as well as developing infrastructure and
systems.
She was most recently controller at Biosite Inc.
Claritas teams with Melissa Data
San Diego-based Claritas Inc. said has teamed with New Orleans-based
Melissa Data, a provider of data quality software and services, to
market Claritas' Prizm NE (New Edition) lifestyle segmentation system.
Melissa Data will use Prizm NE by appending its segment codes to its
clients' contact databases or house files.
Prizm NE defines every neighborhood in the U.S. in terms of 66 distinct
lifestyle segments by combining demographic and lifestyle data.
Linux expo scheduled
The third annual Southern California Linux Expo will be held Feb. 12-13,
2004, at the Los Angeles Convention Center
Organizers say the expo will feature seminars on advanced subjects,
tutorials for novices, and that almost every LUG (Linux Users Group) in
Southern California will have a booth.

NTI releases CD/DVD software
Irvine-based NewTech Infosystems Inc. released the CD & DVD-Maker 7
Titanium Suite for consumers.
Among the suite's new features is DVD Fit, which allows users to put 8.5
GB dual-layer DVD movies onto a 4.7 single-layer disc by removing
unwanted features.
Aiirmesh announces wireless broadband program with city
Woodland Hills-based Aiirmesh Communications, a high-speed wireless
Internet service provider targeting community-wide deployment, will
provide a six-month, wireless broadband pilot in the Marvin Braude
Center, a multi-agency, facility in Van Nuys.
The goal of the project is to help the city better understand Wi-Fi, how
it can increase productivity and to analyze the benefits of Internet
availability for the public, both inside buildings and in outside common
areas.
