Enable UDMA
Posted by : Stephen Bigelow
Tuesday, June 12, 2001 Enable UDMA You may need to download and use a utility that will enable the fastest data transfer modes.

While your hard drive may be designed to support a fast data transfer mode such as UDMA/66 or UDMA/100, that mode may not be enabled on the drive itself, in order to support backward compatibility (allowing the newer drive to operate on older systems without risking data corruption.)

For many drives, you may need to download and use a utility that will enable the fastest data transfer modes. Take a close look at the drive documentation (and accompanying software diskette) to find out if you need to run such a utility.
