The largest investigation in American history is under way, and we all hope and pray that we can quickly find the perpetrators of these heinous acts and swiftly bring them to justice. In the context of these extraordinary circumstances, our anger compels us to think differently than we normally do. It is tempting to think we should do whatever is necessary to bring these evildoers to justice, even if it means sacrificing our personal freedoms.

I suggest that we need to resist this thinking whenever it springs to mind. An example can be found in
