Other topics covered in MIT's National Magazine of Technology and Policy are "Videoconferencing For the Rest of Us", "Robots Display Organized Behavior at MIT", and "Toward a Cleaner, Tidier Net". Additional features of the magazine include a career center, a bulletin board, and an online book catalog.
NASA 's Office of Technology Transfer
Technology transfer involves "moving ideas, concepts and products from the Government arena into the private sector." This site shows how some of NASA's discoveries in propulsion, structures, energy generation, aerospace medicine, communications, etc. have found application in private industry. Some technologies are developed by private industry in partnership with NASA. Success stories: 1) A small turbine pump that works as a temporary or permanent assist to heart patients. The pump emerged from NASA turbopump technology. 2) A plant growth system that uses zeolite minerals to provide a root medium in which to grow plants, suitable for use in space, but also having commercial applications in horticulture, home gardening, etc. Entrepreneurs interested in technology transfer can investigate further. http://technology.jsc.nasa.gov

The Institute for New Energy
The Institute For New Energy believes that alternative energy technologies need to be developed immediately to save the Earth from environmental destruction. "New Energy" or "Advanced Energy" devices and systems may operate with a higher efficiency than those used today, and include advanced concepts where the energy conversion may appear to be over unity (such as in a dam or in a transistor). New energy topics presented here include space power generators, "over unity" and "free energy" machines, scalar wave theory, electric vehicles, magnetic motors, vortex mechanics, cold fusion, electro-static generators, nuclear isotopes, motional magnetic fields, zero-point energy, N-machines, homopolar generators, advanced energy conversion, space energy, advanced physics, vibration, cavatation, sublimation, etherization, rotational electromagnetics, gyroscopes, counterbary, and antigravity. The INE sponsors The International Symposium On New Energy to bring together outstanding international new energy researchers, to share and discuss their latest findings, stimulate new research ideas, and find funding sources. Its monthly newsletter, The New Energy News, reports the latest findings in new energy research. This web page has announcements of meetings, important papers and conference proceedings, articles, reports, reference files, books, and videotapes.

The Journal of Ideas is an e-zine dedicated to improving the quality of life, and is truly "a feast of ideas." There are articles on biology ("Positive Feedback and the Origin of Life"), computing ("Anti-Simulation - Using Physical Analogs for Computation"), economics ("The Wealth of Information - Is This What Makes Us Rich?"), education ("Colour as an Aid to Understanding and Speed Reading"), cosmology ("Other Reasons for the Cosmological Red Shift"), humanity ("Practical Immortality by Brain Readout and Simulation"), language and communication ("Cellular Automata to Simulate the Laws of Physics"), manufacturing ("Production of Solid Parts by Direct Computer Output"), and many more subjects. Of particular interest is a series of physics articles on "Force Field Implications of Anti-Gravity." The site also has 3D stereoscopic images and movies which you can view without special equipment.
Smart Clothes: Wearable Computing from MIT
Most computers sit on the desk and interact with their owners for only a small fraction of the day. Wearable computing hopes to shatter this myth of how a computer should be used. The creators of this website argue that a personal computer should be worn, as eyeglasses or clothing are worn. "With heads-up displays, unobtrusive input devices, personal wireless local area networks, and a host of other context sensing and communication tools, the wearable computer can act as an intelligent assistant." A wearable computer can interact with its environment, retrieving information for the wearer. Some applications for wearables are remembrance agents, collective intelligence, augmented reality, and enabling technology for the handicapped. Other topics addressed at this web pag are hardware and software; links to commercial wearables sites; human powered wearables; affective computing; privacy issues; MIT research and academic programs; military, commercial, and independent research; and how to make a wearable for $2-3k. This page is meant to serve as an introduction to the field of wearable computing and as a resource for more technical information. Updates occur as new technology is released.
