Learning Network offers a wealth of material for people of all ages. The joy of learning is really conveyed here; anyone could spend a lot of time wandering through this site finding interesting articles, resources, and fun for kids. The different areas of the site include K-12 education, which has sections for students, parents, and teachers; professional development, offering career-building resources and services for professionals; and lifelong learning, for adults who enjoy learning for the sake of learning. A reference area has dictionaries, encyclopedias, and more. Students can get online tutoring in many subjects for a fee.

iwebquest.com: Discover the Joy of Learning
Students, teachers, and parents can discover the joy of learning through this wide selection of award-winning webquests, hotlists, and treasure hunts. Webquests are lesson plans or curriculum units that use the Internet. These lessons strive to get students thinking at a higher level by asking an essential question, providing opportunities to explore, and then applying the knowledge with a hands-on activity. Each webquest has references to Internet resources (web sites, online journals, virtual tours, message boards, and email) and offline resources such as children's literature, CD-ROMs, magazines, field trips, and guest speakers. The culmination of a webquest can be creating a presentation, emailing an expert in the field, creating a web page, or a variety of offline activities. Submariners Association (Barrow-in-Furness)
The site celebrates one hundred years of British submarines. The people of Barrow-in-Furness have been involved in building submarines for the Royal Navy from the Holland 1 in 1901 to the current Astute project. The Royal Navy will hold centenary celebrations in May, 2001 at Barrow-in-Furness. The website features the history and photographs of the subs, along with naval heroes, songs, humor, articles, stories, recommended books and videos, and a forum. http://www.submariners.co.uk

Huntington College Virtual Campus Tour
This website is a good example of how a college can use the World Wide Web and other media to best advantage in introducing itself to prospective students. WebCams show interactive 360-degree panoramas of 50 outdoor and indoor campus locations, combined with a video tour. To find their way around, visitors can refer to interactive maps and driving directions, and finally download a map to carry. A photo album has scenes of campus life; some of these images are available as e-postcards. College-bound students can order a free multimedia CD-ROM as well. The website links to a Live Radio broadcast from the college, and to local weather reports. The navigation bars feature changing images showing more of the college. The website was designed to encourage students to visit in person, and invites them to sit in on classes, meet professors, sample the food, and mingle with students. Free and Comprehensive Online SAT Preparation for College
Here's a chance for students to prepare for SAT tests and take practice examinations online. There are several different examination options; you can take tests for free, but you can get additional evaluation and help for a fee. For further study, the site has a SAT Math Teaser of the Day, a Challenge Question of the Day, a SAT Word of the Hour, critical reading questions, and study tips. You can register to have challenge questions and answers sent to you by regular email so you can study over a period of time. Memorial Flight Association
This French organization preserves WWI aircrafts and restores them to flying condition. Some of the projects are the only original Spad XIII in the world; Bleriot XI; Fokker DR-I; and the Morane AI. The RAF SE5a is being constructed from an original drawing. The "Point d'Interrogation" (Question Mark) is being restored for static display in the French Air and Space Museum. Class.com is a fully accredited independent study high school founded in 1929 (as CLASS Project) and now offering students a chance to earn a high school diploma over the Internet. Offering more than 150 courses, the school has over 6,000 students currently enrolled in every state and in 135 countries worldwide. More than 3,200 students have graduated. This home study program can be taken with the sponsorship of a local school. Tuition is charged for the courses. The free lessons include both text and sound bytes so you can learn to pronounce the words, and quizzes to help you remember. Smithsonian Natural History Web: African Voices
This beautiful site from the National Museum of Natural History explores the people, culture and dynamic history of the African continent, and the effect of African cultural traditions on the rest of the world. An extension of the Smithsonian's "African Voices" exhibition in Washington, D.C., the site is designed to make this permanent exhibition available to people all around the world. Electric SchoolHouse
Electric SchoolHouse is a free service for schools that keeps parents, teachers and kids in touch with each other. Membership is free, and includes free email accounts, monitored bulletin boards and chat rooms; children receive an "eBackpack", parents a "virtual refrigerator door", and teachers get an "eBriefcase" to organize their materials. With school membership, each classroom or club gets a virtual classroom with a calendar, bulletin board, and more. Teachers can post homework assignments and class materials so parents and students can check them from home, along with announcements of field trips, tests, and other important events. Teachers looking for ideas and homeschoolers alike will find this website useful. The site has a large collection of free K-12 lesson plans and online classes for a wide range of subjects. Magweb is an extensive military history archive, covering 45 centuries with over 14,000 articles from 72 different magazines. The magazines cover military history and the art of war, plus wargames, board games, RPGs, and computer games. Here readers can find info on battles, weapons, campaigns, commanders, uniforms, strategy, and tactics from Biblical times to the modern era, and on into various futures. There are reviews of books, games, models and miniatures, and other products that bring military history to your armchair, tabletop, or computer screen. A search engine for the site enables users to find articles by keyword or concept and also to find rare archived issues of some magazines. There is a discussion board and free classified ad section. Most of the articles here are for registered users only; there is a monthly fee for subscription. This site has a collection of online vocabulary tests. Here you can increase your vocabulary through interactive JavaScript quizzes with definitions and etymologies. Tools For College Writing
This site is designed to introduce basic skills college students to "college culture" and to help strengthen their writing skills. The site is well-organized and easy to navigate, with a navigation frame on the left and a dictionary frame below the text so students can quickly define words they don't understand. The site's author offers a lot of advice about surviving and thriving as a college student. There is a voice option for the entire text to aid learning-disabled and ESL students. The site is currently being used by over 200 colleges and universities and some high schools.

Mrs. Glosser's Math Goodies is a free educational website with interactive math lessons. The lessons use a problem-solving approach to engage students actively in the learning process; they are designed to be fun and easy to use. Other sections have math puzzles, a math image library, math applications, and homework suggestions. There are Math Chat message boards for students doing homework, interdisciplinary projects, teachers, new teachers, and parents.
