National Fatherhood Initiative
"Every man needs to know that however high his aspirations may be, however lofty a position he may attain, he will never have a greater duty or a more important title than 'dad'." This quote from George W. Bush appears on the opening web page of the National Fatherhood Initiative's site. The NFI aims to stimulate a society-wide movement to confront the growing problem of father absence, and is dedicated to improving the well-being of children by increasing the number of children growing up with involved, committed and responsible fathers in their lives. A non-profit, non-sectarian, non-partisan organization, the NFI conducts public awareness campaigns promoting responsible fatherhood; organizes conferences and forums; provides resource materials; publishes a quarterly newsletter; conducts research on fatherhood; disseminates information to men who want to become more effective fathers. Visitors to his site can find conferences and events on fatherhood; read articles with parenting advice, and the Fatherhood Today Newsletter; meet and interact with others who have similar interests; and read special reports such as the Fatherhood and TV Report. http://www.fatherhood.org/

We-Blocker Free Internet Filtering Software
Here parents can download a free, easy-to-use Internet filtering program which
will enable them to control and monitor their children's access to the Web.
The software gives parents the option of customizing the type of viewing material
that is available to each member of the household, and of keeping a history
of what sites are visited. Blocking criteria are divided into seven categories:
pornography, violence, drugs and alcohol, weaponry, hate speech, gambling, and
adult subjects. The software is continuously updated to keep up with the rapid
growth of the Internet, and is provided to users free of charge. According to
one of We-Blocker's promoters, "The purpose of We-Blocker is to protect the
community, especially children, from the negative effects of the Internet without
detracting from its positive educational and entertainment value." http://www.we-blocker.com
Funschool.com
This site has Java-based educational games for children in preschool through
sixth grade. The games are fun, help develop basic math and language skills,
and introduce the kids to computers. Sensitive to a child's short attention
span, the site has things to watch and do while the games are loading. The games
are designed to engage children's minds as well as their hands and eyes, and
are sorted by age group. There are parent areas as well, but the games are child-friendly,
so although parents may enjoy getting involved, a child can navigate the site
without help. http://www.funschool.com
