The Diplomatic Pouch
The Diplomatic Pouch is an extensive Internet resource for players of the game of Diplomacy. The original game of Diplomacy is set in Europe of the early 20th century, and is played by seven players, each taking the part of one of the Great European Powers of that age. Players order armies and fleets into combat against each other in a war for control of Europe. The most important part of the game is the negotiations which occur before each move to establish alliances, elaborate war plans, and backstabs. There are no dice to roll, no random events to deal with, so the game is strictly a competition of wits and wiles. Diplomacy can be played face-to-face, by mail, or by email. This web page exists for the education, entertainment, and edification of players of the game, and provides a location for special events announcements. Completed games are showcased at this website for entertainment, learning, and to illustrate game variants. The site offers a zine featuring interviews with experienced players, master classes on strategy and tactics, newbie columns, in-depth discussions of European geography and history, fantasy variants of the game, puzzles, and letters. Also available here are reference documents, maps of Europe in 1901, clubs and organizations, a newsgroup, a FAQ, and a list of links to more online Diplomacy resources.
