January is an online magazine all about books. Book lovers will find reviews, publishing news, and profiles of well-known authors. This website is a searchable database containing thousands of science fiction and fantasy books. Each book is listed with a photo of the cover and a short description. Readers can use the alphabetical listing, or search by title, author, series, or keyword. The keyword search helps when you don't know the exact title, or you are looking for a short story. Books are also categorized by genre to help you find books similar to the ones you already know and love. The books are divided into science fiction, fantasy, young readers, and award winners. The award winner section will provide a complete history of all books that have either been nominated or have won the Hugo, the Nebula, or the World Fantasy award. Project Gutenberg makes available important works of literature that are in the public domain, in electronic form. Here, thanks to the work of many volunteers, people all over the world have access to Shakespeare, Chaucer, Dostoyevsky, Freud, Plato, Hans Christian Andersen, Louisa May Alcott, William Blake, Guy De Maupassant, Sojourner Truth, Lao Tzu, and other classics. Writers' Village University is "more than a great place to learn how to write, it's a living, breathing community of writers from around the world." This popular hangout for creative writers on the Internet is staffed by volunteer writers and teachers who believe education should be a life-long pursuit for both beginning and experienced writers. For a membership at $59 per year, you can take as many courses and workshops as you like. Some examples of the courses are Write Your Novel in 30 Days, Novel Revision, Short Story, Poetry Seminars, and Literature Studies. If you want to try out the program, you can take the first course, Fiction 98, for free.
