January Magazine
January is an online magazine all about books. Book lovers will find reviews, publishing news, and profiles of well-known authors. Here is a good place to find out about new and interesting titles, and read interviews with their authors. The magazine also hosts the works of talented journalists, critics, and photographers. There are sections covering fiction, nonfiction, crime fiction, science fiction, children's books, art and culture, cookbooks, biography, features, bestsellers, and more. This website is a searchable database containing thousands of science fiction and fantasy books. Each book is listed with a photo of the cover and a short description. Readers can use the alphabetical listing, or search by title, author, series, or keyword. The keyword search helps when you don't know the exact title, or you are looking for a short story. Books are also categorized by genre to help you find books similar to the ones you already know and love. The books are divided into science fiction, fantasy, young readers, and award winners. The award winner section will provide a complete history of all books that have either been nominated or have won the Hugo, the Nebula, or the World Fantasy award. This site is dedicated to Bram Stoker, famed author of Dracula. Here fans can read about Stoker's life and view the pictures of him which have survived. This is a reference site for everything in science fiction. The webmasters hope to make Fantafiction "the biggest site on the Internet for information about sci-fi and fantasy books and authors." You can check here to find the latest fantasy, science fiction, and horror books coming out, and new books that will be published in the next few months. There is an alphabetical index of authors with a short bio, photo, and list of works for each; the major books have descriptions and cover art. There is another index for illustrators. You can browse book reviews here, and find bookstores around the world that carry science fiction. The Moonlit Road
This family-friendly site features monthly ghost stories and other strange folktales from the mysterious backroads of the American South. Selecting a folktale takes the reader to a storyteller's cabin in the land where the story was born; here the story begins. The stories are available in both text and streaming audio versions. Cultural background is included with each story. Members of the site can read archived stories and get email updates. Project Gutenberg: Fine Literature Digitally Re-published
Project Gutenberg makes available important works of literature that are in the public domain, in electronic form. Here, thanks to the work of many volunteers, people all over the world have access to Shakespeare, Chaucer, Dostoyevsky, Freud, Plato, Hans Christian Andersen, Louisa May Alcott, William Blake, Guy De Maupassant, Sojourner Truth, Lao Tzu, and other classics. There are even other resources like math constants, world facts, and motion pictures of the Apollo 11 Lunar Landing. Users can search the database by author, title, or date, then download works using FTP or HTTP. The project also sponsors a newsgroup at bit.listserv.gutnberg.

Writers' Village University

Writers' Village University is "more than a great place to learn how to write, it's a living, breathing community of writers from around the world." This popular hangout for creative writers on the Internet is staffed by volunteer writers and teachers who believe education should be a life-long pursuit for both beginning and experienced writers. For a membership at $59 per year, you can take as many courses and workshops as you like. Some examples of the courses are Write Your Novel in 30 Days, Novel Revision, Short Story, Poetry Seminars, and Literature Studies. If you want to try out the program, you can take the first course, Fiction 98, for free. In addition to the courses, seminars, and special programs, writers will find here a full-time support service where they can interact, share their work, and ask questions.
