Frogans: a New Layer of the Internet
If the Web address you wanted isn't available, try setting up a frogan. STG Interactive, a French company, is registering site names for a new layer of the Internet called the Frogans Layer. This new layer is interactive with the World Wide Web, but independent, using its own language and search functions, and requiring a special browser. This innovative technology offers an alternative to the World Wide Web, with a very specific addressing format, simple publishing functions, and a low cost to maintain and update. Instead of web pages, the Frogans Layer supports an easy-to-use publishing system that lets editors create sets of free-form, interactive slides called frogans. Developers can create frogans slides with the XML-based Frogans Slide Description Language (FSDL), using any simple plain text editor. At the web page, users can view examples of the slides. Users will be able to hyperlink between the Frogans layer and the Web, making the Frogans layer complementary to and interactive with the Web. The already-established worldwide network, made up of dedicated applications and protocols and high availability server farms, is called the Frogans Network System (FNS). The Frogans Network System aims to extend the functionality of the Internet in new directions never before imagined. http://www.frogans.com
