All-New Episodes of “STEM Journals” with Host Geoff Notkin Airing Now

Tucson, AZ, September 16, 2014 –(PR.com)– Four all-new episodes of the award-winning educational TV series “STEM Journals” will air on consecutive Sundays during September and October, starting on September 14 and continuing through October 5, 2014.

Hosted by international science celebrity Geoff Notkin, “STEM Journals” gives viewers unprecedented access to the latest in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) research and innovation, while highlighting career pathways and degree options for students.

New episodes of “STEM Journals” premiere on Cox channels 7 and 1007 in Arizona and stream live worldwide at www.cox7.com Sunday at 7 pm PT, with encore showings at 9 pm Sunday and 8 pm Tuesday. The series is produced by Cox Creative Studios, Paint It Black and Deep Sky Productions.

The southwestern chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences recently nominated “STEM Journals” for two Emmy Awards in the Education category. The series has received multiple Emmy and Telly awards during its first three seasons.

The four new episodes, with Sunday debut dates, are:

• OSIRIS-Rex (September 14): The Origins Spectral Interpretation Resource Identification and Security-Regolith Explorer (OSIRIS-REx), is a daring asteroid sample return mission set to launch in 2016. Geoff visits with Principal Investigator Dante Lauretta at mission headquarters in Tucson, then travels to Denver, where he becomes one of only a handful of people to visit the actual spacecraft during testing at Lockheed-Martin.

• Medical Advances (September 21): Geoff has difficulty telling the difference between medical science and science fiction when he tries to save a synthetic human from cardiac arrest at the University of Arizona College of Medicine. Then, with the help of Teresa Wu, M.D., he almost delivers a baby, and donates his brain to science in hope of finding a cure for Alzheimer’s.

• Paleontology (September 28): In the most ambitious “STEM Journals” episode yet, lifelong fossil enthusiast Notkin takes to the road in the wilds of Wyoming to make a childhood dream come true. He joins his friends from the Saurier Museum in Switzerland, learning how to hunt for dinosaurs and helping excavate a 100-foot sauropod. The episode also includes the search for stromatolites – the oldest-known form of life – and explains how these ancient fossils might help us find life on Mars.

• Young Innovators (October 5): Experienced mentors in a variety of fields play a crucial role in guiding students on the pathway to success. Geoff discovers how these mentors are helping the next generation of STEM innovators achieve their educational and career goals.
