Attevo Advocates Acceptance And Controlled Integration Of Employee-Owned Computing Devices

CLEVELAND April 19, 2012

David Snyder Cleveland

While BYOD has many proponents, critics contend that BYOD implementations are inherently troublesome because of: higher operating costs; security risks; ownership and maintenance of application (app) software; wide variations in obtainable device hardware/operating systems; proprietary data remaining on the machine; the responsibility for repairs of the physical device, especially when there’s a mission critical app on the device. These are legitimate technical and cultural hurdles that need to be addressed in both BYOD policy and roll-out strategies. Fortunately, robust development tools, refined program interface methodologies, virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI) and data loss prevention technologies can be successfully used to create a safe, reliable and cost-saving BYOD computing environment.
