Rockliffe selected by Encyclopedia Britannica

Campbell-based Rockliffe Inc., a developer of e-mail server and secure e-mail software for enterprises, service providers, and small businesses, said Encyclopedia Britannica Inc. implemented Rockliffe MailSite as an e-mail firewall to protect its Microsoft Exchange servers and employees from security threats such as viruses and spam. Rockliffe MailSite provides an increased level of perimeter protection for Britannica by providing spam, virus, and directory harvest attack protection before these activities can take their toll in the Microsoft Exchange environment.

Canto updates Cumulus

San Francisco-based Canto, a maker of digital asset management products, released Cumulus 6.0.2. for myCumulus, Single User, and Workgroup. New or enhanced features include the Palette Mode, and printing of records, categories and previews (based on the selected View Set). Some new features have also been included in the Preferences dialog. There are now new options in User settings for the Print, Search and Display functions. For example, after a search the results remain in the chosen sort order set by the user. In the Display panel, the settings can now enable the image displayed to be limited to its original size. This is essential in the event that some images may appear distorted due to the image being stretched and re-sized to fit the window. Canto also released Cumulus 6 for Enterprise. Using EJaP (Embedded Java Plug-In) technology, the product can be customized to meet the demanding business needs of global enterprises.

Engineers due for insurance discount

San Francisco-based Esurance Inc., a direct-to-consumer personal auto insurance company, recently launched its new Preferred Occupation discount for certified educators, engineers, and scientists. To receive Esurance’s Preferred Occupation discount, consumers or their spouses must hold a license or degree in education, engineering, mathematics, or natural science, and/or be currently employed in one of those fields. Consumers eligible for this discount can see the exact requirements when they get a quote online at www.esurance.com.

Octic releases Volume Logic for iTunes

Berkeley-based Octiv released Volume Logic for Windows and an upgraded version for Mac, the first audio digital re-mastering plug-in for the Apple iTunes player. Now available for Windows, Volume Logic was first released for the Macintosh in January 2004. Volume Logic now supports the Griffin PowerMate, a knob that plugs directly into a Mac or Windows USB port and lets users adjust volume or mute sound for maximum sound quality control for iTunes. Octiv Volume Logic improves the quality of the listening experience by digitally remastering audio in real-time with the same technology used by the pros in the music and broadcast business.

Freescale picks GDA

San Jose-based GDA Technologies Inc., supplier of silicon intellectual property and electronic design services said Freescale Semiconductor, a subsidiary of Motorola Inc., has licensed IP cores from GDA. The licensed IP cores are part of GDA’s interconnect IP portfolio and are to be integrated into Freescale’s next-generation semiconductor products. The licensed IP cores are high-performance interconnect controller solutions optimized for bandwidth, latency, and silicon footprint for ASIC and FPGA implementations.

Global Hauri teams with Foundstone

San Jose-based Global Hauri, publisher of ViRobot antivirus software, joined Foundstone’s Foundsecure Technology partner program. ViRobot antivirus engine is unique in its ability to not simply isolate viruses, but to destroy them on the fly without requiring a separate cleaning utility. It also prevents re-infection by real-time eradication.

Pronto Networks nominated for award

Pleasanton-based Pronto Networks, a maker of carrier-class OSS solutions for large Wi-Fi hot spot networks, was named as one of four finalists in the “Most Promising New Company” category for Billing World and OSS Today’s 2004 Excellence Awards. The awards recognize the best vendors in the billing and operations support system segments of the telecommunications industry.
