Prestashop recently released the first beta version of Prestashop 1.7. The new version, along with retaining Prestashop’s advantages of lightness and cost-effectiveness, offers features that makes the overall development and maintenance work of an on-line store, faster.
Let us see the ways in which the new version makes the overall work involved in developing and maintaining your online store, faster:
1) Quick Designing– The new version of the e-commerce platform offers a starter theme which includes all essential features but no styling. Designers can build a more extensive design theme by using the starter theme as a base and thus, build the ideal design for your online store, faster.
2) Save Time With Compatible Themes– In previous versions of the e-commerce platform, different modules were compatible with different themes. This is not the case with the new version. Any theme design that is built upon the starter theme, is compatible with all available modules. This saves one’s time to find compatible modules for a specific theme.
3) Quicker Admin Work– The new version quickens the work of the merchant by providing a simplified product configuration page, an improved modules page, and an improved admin menu structure. The new product configuration page allows easy addition of product attributes by showcasing the most relevant features on the product configuration page while the new modules page allows a better and faster management of modules. The new admin menu with an improved workflow design allows tasks to be done quickly.
4) Less Maintenance Work– Parts of the version have been built on the symfony framework, which automatically renders less maintenance work for your e-commerce website and thus, saves you time and money, both.
Along with the aforementioned features, Prestashop 1.7 offers better safety of your e-commerce store with better password security and the secure Symfony framework. With better security and faster workflow, owners of Prestashop stores that run on older versions, might be tempted to upgrade to the new version. But the Prestashop team makes it clear in their official blog that it won’t be easy to upgrade as one will have to update themes and modules along with the platform, as well. Though, for a new merchant wanting an easier and quicker work-flow, the new version can be an ideal choice.
