A USB connection is quicker and more convenient than a serial port connection for transferring pictures to your PC or laptop.
If you’re shopping for a digital camera — whether for business use or just to capture family fun — consider a camera with a USB port. USB offers a quick and convenient way to transfer pictures to your PC or laptop. Traditional serial port connections require you to power down the system and camera before making the connection. Then you’ll need to turn the camera and PC back on, launch the image download/editing software, and then transfer your images. With USB, you can simply connect the camera and PC “hot.” Windows will recognize the camera (after you install some initial drivers of course), and you can transfer images right away. Then you can just disconnect the USB cable and start snapping more photos.
