A new wireless, real-time system enables growers to monitor and control their pumps automatically and remotely through their iPads, iPhones, smart phones, and tablets.
ClimateMinder’s flagship smart-phone and tablet-compatible software, GrowMobile, allows growers to turn their pumps on and off or set threshold constraints for automatic control while they are away from their field or computer. ClimateMinder alerts growers through phone calls, text messages or emails when undesired conditions occur, such as a lack of pressure on irrigation lines when the pump or a valve is turned on, among other critical condition changes.
When it comes to pump protection, ClimateMinder continuously monitors the pump to ensure it is running under optimal conditions. ClimateMinder’s GrowMobile software provides information such as energy consumption, alarms and operation data. For instance, the system monitors overvoltage and undervoltage and provides early warnings if there are variations in supply, which can result in pump damage. Similarly, in case of an overheat, the pump can be shut down to protect against costly damages.
Craig Calandra, the founder of Uvas, Inc. and a table grape grower in California’s Central Valley, shared the benefits of ClimateMinder’s controlling capability on their production as follows: “By using ClimateMinder, we achieved better results very quickly. The biggest eye-opener was the more uniform color development and increased sugars. On average we increased our sugars 2-4 points higher than last year. This adds up to around 200 – 400 more boxes per acre. As for quality, the condition of the grape is far better than last year. By watering less we have less humidity in the field, which leads to less sour rot and botrytis.”
“ClimateMinder is extremely fast and easy to use,” said another ClimateMinder customer, citrus and table grape grower Lenny Villagomez, owner of the Central Valley’s All Ag, Inc. “I learned the software very quickly, without experience from similar technology products. Controlling my pumps, checking the irrigation system status, and looking at soil moisture reports using ClimateMinder became a part of my daily routine. The system tells me exactly what I need to know and when I need to know it. Now, managing my irrigation is as easy as pushing a button.”
This innovative mobile control capability will be on display at the Irrigation Show 2011 in San Diego from November 6 to 8 at booth # 1849.
Founded in 2005 and based in Glendale, CA, ClimateMinder, Inc. offers a wireless, real-time solution that enables growers to more effectively monitor and control their irrigation. It helps growers reduce costs associated with their use of essential resources such as water, energy, and fertilizers, in addition to increasing crop yield and quality.
